I saw a dealer demonstrator parked across the road the other night.

There is one in Ayr Train station car park I pass every day. I have to say in the press pictures I wasn't impressed, but in the flesh it actually looks pretty good.

We took this one out for a run a while back, and after the eerie low speeds, reversing etc where there was no noise, found it to be quite good. As soon as it was up to 30mph, the road noise lets you know that its on the move. My wife floored it joining the A3 at Ripley, and it was surprising fast, almost up to 325 standard. She was doing 85 in it, drove fine. Of course the guage on the front which told you how many miles further it could go, dropped like a stone. It has a motorcycle engine too, so fairly usable, but not for me, especially at £24,000ish

Arnt they quicker/as quick as an m3 or something 0-30mph ?
Seen and had a good look around at a test car, black and red/orange sort of color , wasn't impressed the interior and dash is rubbish , the carbon fibre quarter panels are terrible do not feel very solid, and only 100 miles per charge isn't great, and 30 bag price tag too isn't it ?
The i8 hybrid mind .... Really is spectacular on the flesh, amazing car

We did a test start in it, flooring it, and it rockets away. Not sure what the 0-30 is, but it would be hard to beat. What we did notice though was that on that 1 start 3 miles were erased from its predicted miles!
Most of them we see on the roads are demonstrators, very few sold so far.

Spotted one on my way to work the other afternoon,as this was in the wilds of deepest Lincolnshire,I was so suprised that it was past me(going the other way!)before I realised just what it was!
As a second car/shopping trolley,it will work fine for most people's 'er indoors, but at £30k+ it's too expensive, and the battery life will be off-putting on the s/h market.
The manufacturer who puts out an affordable electric car,say around the lower end of the Kia price range, will clean up the market.

The i3 is such a flop that there predicted sales figures of 10k for the final quarter of 2013 and the entireity of 2014 had already been beaten by october last year as they had already sold 11000.
Orders have been flying in but the production cannot keep up with the demand and the waiting list is now November/December. I put an order through the other day actually and I have a feeling we will not see that car until 2015.
It may not be your cup of tea but it is not a flop

That raises another spectre; rechargaeable batteries don't like to be sitting about unused for long, so if these cars are sitting about in storage somewhere, that could lead to issues when they are finally delivered...

I have seen a handful around but a LOT more 116d's, which for most people is a better idea.

But not as good as a 10 month old CDTi Astra for half the price.pacerpete wrote:I have seen a handful around but a LOT more 116d's, which for most people is a better idea.
The 116d is just another pig ugly, cramped hatchback with very average performance, crap visibility and MPG that doesn't come close to official figures. The benefits of the handling are lost on most buyers.
