The boss is from Demon Tweeks http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorspor ... g-car-boss it is the real deal :)

Give me a heads up if you're over that way for sure. If I'm about be good to meet up!

I drove up to Lichfield this evening where SPA are based to pick up my gauges. I've got DG201 oil temperature and pressure gauge for the engine and DG207 which is fuel pressure and battery voltage. They're really neat bits of kit, you can set the colour and brightness of the display, set external outputs for alarms, warning lights, fans etc. Once the engine is in I need to sort out t-pieces and plumbing for them.

Ordering my new seat tomorrow from Cobra seats, looking forward to that 8)

Spa gauges are really good, I use two for gearbox and diff cooling pump control, also use one for low oil pressure warning mounted on the steering wheel.

It's taken a while to get them because I've got them through a mate of mine who works at Penske so he's been running round sorting it for me. Got a mega deal on them but I gave them the wrong part number of one of the gauges. Left it with them last night and they changed the chip in the gauge and the loom and it's ready now so I'll get it back this weekend :)

I've ordered Kevlar Sebring Pro from their 'signature' range. It's black with red stitching, carbon effect patches and BMW roundels on the ears. Also a pair of their light weight alloy mounts too, they're worlds lighter than the steel ones. All a bit flashy but I've got it as part of a 'sponsorship' deal so it's an amazing price. I've got something in the pipeline for Millers oils too which should be good :)

Nice seat. I can't fit in that style seat because of my shoulder width. (I spent a couple of years in a wheelchair) Luckily I have a Ridgard which is just about ideal and still narrow enough for an e30.

Looking forward to it arriving :D

Went back home this weekend and got the engine nailed back in with the help of a friend and previous iS owner. All went together pretty well. Got it fired up today, it took some cranking but eventually got there and I can now concentrate on a few little jobs before its first outing in 4 weeks time :)

My seat arrived from Cobra. To say I'm happy with it is an understatement :D :D I cannot get over how light the aluminium side mounts are compared to the steal ones as well, such a weight saving to be had for only £30 odd extra over the cost of the steal ones. Despite being sick as a dog at this current moment I had to get into the garage and get it bolted in the car. Also fitted my TRS harnesses which I noticed had something wrong with them too. The expired year on the lap straps was 2015 and the shoulder and crotch had 2017. I called up TRS and they confirmed that all the straps had been manufactured at the same time and this shouldn't have happened. Just waiting for a call on Monday and they're going to arranged to send 2 new ones out. Can't argue with that :thumb:

Thank you mate :thumb: I am quite proud of it to be honest :)

After a couple of days in bed ill and despite protest from loved ones I hauled my arse back into the garage and got my gauges fitted and wired in. After much searching and ringing round over the last couple of weeks, I eventually found a supplier for my gauge sensor adaptors. LMA were very helpful and supplied me with an M12x1.5 to 1/8 NPT adaptor for my oil temperature sensor; plus a remote t-piece with braided line, that has an M12x1.5 fitting for the standard oil pressure switch and a 1/8 BSP thread for the gauge pressure sensor. They didn't list the last part any where but a couple emails and calls to them and they sorted it no problem. I'm running the standard oil pressure light switch as well just so there are no lights on the dash unless something is actually wrong. As for the fuel pressure sensor I used a t-piece I had already that has an 1/8 NPT thread and bought adaptors to take it to 1/8 BSP.

I have mounted the pressure sensors with rubber lined P-clips using existing threaded inserts in the engine bay. One for the fuel filter and another for the PAS reservoir, quite handy as it saves drilling and arising around in general.

Line for remote t piece for oil pressure:

Oil pressure sensors (one for gauge and standard pressure warning light):

The gauges are mounted to my carbon centre console. I will eventually mount other switches etc on this hence why they aren't slap bang in the middle. I had a little play and changed the units of measurement and also adjusted 'low' warnings etc. these are very cool bits of kit 8) :

Image

Finally I quickly changed the nuts and bolts on my steering wheel for shorter bolts and K-nuts:

In 2 weeks time is the first roll out and shake down so fingers crossed it all goes well! :)

So first roll out today at the local airfield. Was a good day, few niggles here and there but nothing major. Kept the engine under 5kRPM and took it steady was all good. Even at low speed it was amazing how stiff and responsive if felt to how it used to. The E46 rack was a god send as well, certainly a worth while upgrade if nothing else!

Weather held off although start of the day was a bit damp so car looks like a rally car. No on track shots but took a couple of pictures at lunch:

2nd run today back at Keevil airfield. Main focus again to get more miles on the car and the engine to bed it in. I discovered there was no thermostat in the engine which explains why I was struggling for water temperature last time out. I fitted one and also put the smaller rad back in and it ran fine today. It seems to be pressurising slightly though which needs some investigation but it doesn't over heat at any point.

The sun shone all day and it was nice to give the car a little more 'grief' this time out. A mate of mine from the local area had recently finished building his E36 compact cup cars and had them out as well. Was really interesting to have a bit of fun with them on track and see how the two cars handled and worked. Despite them having legs on the straight, due to me changing gear at 5kRPM and them going to 7.2kRPM, I found my car was better in the corners and under braking which kept a good balance for us to have a tussle winkeye

Image

Got the most out of my front tyres too:

Image

Can't get enough of this angle of the car either, looks wicked

Image

So now that it's hit the track I wanted to do a quite 'spec list' on where it's at now:
Rebuilt engine with mild delta reground cams, 3 angle valve seats and light weight flywheel with stage 1 clutch
Mapped ECU
K&N panel filter in standard airbox
4.1 LSD with 4 clutch upgrade
WilWood 4 pot front calipers with 280mm discs
Rear brake calipers from touring E30 (2mm large piston)
Braided brake and clutch lines
Brake bias valve in the cabin
Internal and external fire extinguisher and battery cut off
Light weight heater
Carbon Door cards
Templar performance hard coated polycarbonate windows
Fibre glass bonnet and boot lids with Aerocatches
Custom cages 6 point weld in roll cage
Sunroof delete
Cobra Sebring Pro Kevlar seat with aluminium mounts
TRS 6 point harness
Steering wheel with quick release
E46 '067' steering rack
AST single adjustable coil over dampers with solid top mounts
Eibach anti roll bars front and rear
Powerflex purple bushes all round (eccentric front wishbone)
Team dynamics 1.2 wheels offset ET15 for caliper and damper clearance
Wide rear view mirror and steering wheel hook
SPA design dual digital gauges for oil pressure/temp and fuel pressure + battery voltage
Z3 short shifter
Front tow strap
Infinity Exhausts full stainless exhaust system
Electric fan
'25' racing battery with anderson plug
E36 M3 fuel pump
Reconditioned serviced injectors
Front turret reinforcement gussets from E30 cabriolet
SFS performance silicone hoses
Stripped back chassis loom

Need to get it on some scales and find out what it weighs really, quite interested. Thats a wrap :) :)

I checked the www.motorsport-events.co.uk website at the start of the week and saw there was another Keevil day for today. Got booked on it as it was the last Saturday event at that venue for quite a while and it is perfect for me whilst running the engine in.

So today for the 3rd time in 6 weeks I was back at Keevil airfield to continue my running in. Engine builder seemed happy that the engine is ready to be given some 'beans' so I did some milage in the morning, got the total to 300miles. Dropped the Millers running in oil out, changed it for my Millers 5w40 Nanotech race oil, changed the filter and away I went. I didn't go mental but it certainly pulls nicely and was great to see whta it could do :)

An issue I had experienced on previous days was the cooling system seeming to over pressurise. I wasn't sure what it was but decided to let it find it's own level when cold and after doing so it is ok. It then dawned on me that I had fitted a smaller heater matrix so there is less coolant required than normal. The level is only marginally lower than the 'standard' marking on the radiator but I guess it made all the difference.

It was dry to start with and we got fairly lucky and only ended up getting the tail end of this. Gave the track a reasonable sprinkling which 'spiced' things up a bit:

Image

Tyre wise I was running T1R's on an old set of BBS. Had to check that with a 5mm spacer the front wheels wouldn't rub on the coil over spring or adjuster but it was perfect. I had been spoilt having run the Dunlop semi slicks the last couple of times, it was a right handful on the Toyo's but made for some good fun driving :)

All in all a good day :)

Looks ace bud. Very envious that you have so many airfield circuits in close proximity though! I have a choice of 1.5 hrs to Elvington (1 or 2 trackdays per yr only), 2 hours to Blyton or 2.5-3 hours to Bedford :(

It is handy :) There aren't any more at Keevil until Septermber now then they will be stopping because the runway is getting resurfaced :( Gets better when I'm in Northampton because Silverstone is 10 minutes and Donington is 45 :D

Speaking of Silverstone I am going to be putting an entry in for the CTCRC Pre93 round on the Silverstone International circuit and probably the test day on the Friday too :) But that's not until June the 6-8th :)

Haha will be giving it some beans next time out, probably do a day at Castle Combe seeing as it's not far from home. Looking at some pictures my dear mother took the front does pitch on quite a bit so will look to get some stiffer springs on the front, but I'll play with that stuff once out on a proper circuit :)

I've been bored at work so been sorting out my battery charger, put an Anderson plug on it and also made a jump battery/tyre inflator box:

Now the car is finished (other than a few little bits and bobs) I thought that after 7 years I should make a proper attempt to box and store all the scrap I have accumulated. Took me all day to pull everything off the shelves, throw away the unneeded rubbish and organise what was left. A couple of the boxes are for spares to take with me to events.

Image

Image

Another job I have been desperate to do is weigh the car. I wasn't too fussed to begin with about weight but it soon got a hold of me and I spent quite a bit of time and money replacing parts for light weight equivalents. I didn't go mental but after seeing the results today I'm pretty happy. The car had what the gauge was showing as 1/4 of a tank for fuel which I'm guesstimating to be any where between 10-15 litres? Ignore the corner weights as I did it on the drive way.

I weighed the car on standard BBS rims with 195/50/15 Toyo T1R tyres:

Image

Then swapped to my Team Dynamics 1.2 rims with 195/55/15 Dunlop Direzza 02G tyres:

Image

Slightly heavier with the track tyres but I kind of expected that to be honest. Overall though I'm not ashamed to admit I did a little skip of delight when I saw it was under a tonne, with the fuel.

It's spot on to be honest as my minimum weight for Pre 93 Touring cars is 1040kg with driver. With the car at 966kg with 1/4 tank fuel plus me at 75kg is 1041kg. Which makes the car underweight if you minus the fuel. Always a good position to be in when it comes to racing and means I just need to make sure I finish each race with enough fuel as 'ballast'.

Tis good value and a better surface to most airfield venues from what I've been lead to believe get it booked :)

Thought I'd best get me arse in gear and get to filling forms.

Race entry and licence renewal have been sent off, just need to book the test day too. I've chosen my number too which will be '62'. Chose it because that's the number our GT3 car ran at the Spa 24hr last year, plus I kind of like it too, as much as you can like a random number haha.

hi Guys I'd be interested in taking my 325 to Bedford especially if some other E30s are going to be there, it will be its first run for 3 years. The crankshaft damper disintegrated 3 years ago at Bedford and the cars sat still ever since, it's now in the process of being re born as a 2.8
I live 7 miles from Bedford Autodrome, are some of you guys local too? ( ROC)

I'm in Northampton mate so not far from Bedford. Car is in Wiltshire though still looking for a workshop or somewhere to store my E30s round here but not had much luck. I've spent all my money buying a HANS device, new tyres, a second set of Team Dynamics wheels and other bits n bobs in preparation for my first race so I won't be joining you chaps if you go :)

New tyres in the shape of Dunlop DZ03:

And I've mounted my lap timer in one of my dash vents:

Cheers guys. My race entry fee has been taken so all ready to go. Got a weekend of prep work to do over the coming bank holiday.

Image

My second set of wheels arrived too I will get my part worn DZ03 tyres mounted to them. Had a fright when they charged me the full retail price for them which is over £500 extra so was a bit quick to have that rectified haha. Weighed one of the wheels on the scales at work. Although weight wise they are the same as the standard BBS, they are ET15 offset which allows clearance for the Wilwood brake calipers and the spring platform on the damper.

A quick update :) My racing is now on hold for a while due to a change in work. Due to the fact I have to fly out to Canada on the 3rd of June for the F1 I'm going to have to withdraw my entry for Silverstone. It's a bit rubbish because I've been preparing this for a while but being offered a huge opportunity to 'go play with the big boys' and join an F1 team for the rest of the season wasn't going to be something I was going to pass up!

Decided to go home this weekend and wrap up a few jobs on the car any way. Fitted my lap timer, just need to pop the transponder in the windscreen so it can link with the beacon as I drive past:

Image

Got some number boards (aka a square of white vinyl) and put them on a long with my number 62. Also changed the 'POLAR' sponsor logo for a larger one in white so it stands out more:

Image

Poped my iS splitter on which was donated kindly by Alex Ball as he can't run it on his race car. I need to give it a dusting with paint to bring it up to scratch:

Image

Fitted a t-piece and dry brake to the fuel system so I can pump the fuel tank out. This enables me to work out fuel usage over a lap, session etc. plus it allows me to only run the fuel I need for a race rather than having to 'guess' how much is in the tank and how much to add:

Image

Image

Thats all for now :)
