m52 vacuum lines

I am trying to sort out an m52 conversion that came in my touring when I bought it. I am swapping the m50b20 manifold out for b25 one and am trying to tidy it up a bit.

The CCV has been removed, but I'm unsure of how the hoses should be routed. Right now this hose goes from the vanos to the intake elbow.


Also, there is a vacuum canister laying in there as well, with one side not connected to anything. Can I just remove it? What should I do with the line that goes under the car to the rear?


What is this for and why has it been spliced into like this?

The breather should go to the intake elbow yes

Vacuum canister? Probably the carbon canister for the fuel tank venting, you dont need it and the pipe can be poked into the suspension turret near where the fuel lines come up into the engine bay

The twist and tape wiring bodge will be for the temp gauge, at the end of the wire you will probably find an E30 brown temp sender. It should be fitted into the head, near the temp sender you can see in your pic

Tuck the end of the pipe in, but DON'T PLUG IT. The end must be left open.
Where would they have found to put a temp sensor in that direction????
It shouldn't be rocket science to build a little interface to allow the M52 gauge sensor to drive an E30 gauge. Half a dozen resistors and a couple of transistors should be all that's required at most.
Anyone know the cold and hot resistance values of the M52 sensor?

OK thanks guys. I dont think its an e30 temp sensor, my temp gauge reads really low at all times. Is this where I should put the e30 sensor though?

Been a while now but I think the E30 temp sensor is M14 but needs to be M12 for the head.

M14 for either of the two holes on the left of my pic, if you need to fit it to the circled hole on the right then it will need turning down to M12x1.5

When you install the brown m20 temp sender ,what colour wire do you connect it to on the m52 temp sender

Just to jump in why do you not block the small tube from the charcole canister off?

And also where would said tube connect to the inlet manifold?
