Hi guys,

Just wondering about those of you who have uprated engines, such as beefed up 2.5s, 2.7s, 3.5s and the like. With that much power, is it ok to run the standard 15s with say 205/55 tyres, or have you found it necessary to change them? i.e. go bigger

Askin because I'm planning on changing my engine at some point to something a bit  but at the moment looking to get a set of 15s. Is it worth holding fire till I get the engine I'm after or is running 15s on even a 3.5 still ok?

Cheers!

I have a built 2.8L m20 with ~185rwhp/tq or so.

I have 245/40R17 on both rear wheels.

I can spin 1st or 2nd from a roll with ease.

3rd just as easy in the rain (just punch it while going 40mph and out comes the ass end)

4th can be done in the rain around 60mph. Actually found this out on accident and almost changed lanes involentarily.

Andrew... what car are you running at the moment...? You still got your 4-door 318iS or have you moved on since then...? Any pics / details?

So would you say its worth holding fire till I get the engine I want. Although to be honest I reckon it will just be a tuned 2.5 possibly turbo'd. Surely 205/55/15s will be ok? Or do you think I will need bigger?

If I went for the 3.5 conversion what size wheels would you recommend for this?

Thanks!

What mods did you do for those and do you get any rubbage?

NIX I'd go for 16's although standard wheels should be alright for a while.

Some of the turbo nutters are still running 205/50/15 on their BBS I think!

If I was you and were going for big power then I would be looking to go as wide as i could but stick with 15's for ride quality and better progressive grip. Rubber band tyres on big rims don't progressively lose grip, it's there and then snap, it's gone & you have to be a real quick-witted hero to catch it. So with big power and the chance of break away on the exit to or mid corner, i would want some feel as to how near the edge you are.

Perfect excuse to go for the phat eurolook winkeye

Yeah that but there isn't many decent looking 15" (wide) wheels out there!

That's why I said 16's

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

By the end of the month I'm lookling to have either have bought either a set of 15" BBS with some decent rubber hopefully or possibly a recaro leather interior depending on availability. But reckon I'm gonna go for some 15" BBS in the mean time, as I'm not sure when I'm actually gonna get the conversion done and am runnin on 14" BBS at the mo.

Keep the suggestions coming tho coz I've not fully made up my mind.

Cheers!

i think e30beemerlads probably right there, my back end can suddenly snap out at any speed in any gear ,im running 205x40x17's and it makes for quite a hard ride, with there being very little flexing in the sidewalls.but once you get used to it its fun winkeye
