Need help, having a problem with fitting the petrol tank on my project. My original donor car was a 1983 2 door. I had the tank sand blasted and sprayed years ago but have just found out that it wont fit my shell. I have another tank from a 4 door that does fit but is rotten. I obviously need a new tank but am unsure what to ask for ( year capacity etc) There is only one panel below the rear seat on my shell. Car is a carb model. The main difference seems to be one corner and the depth of the top section.

Looking at the tank in the last pic I would guess 316 carb
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

2nd and 3rd picture are from a 316 1983 carb two door. 1st and 4th picture are from a 1986 316 carb 4 door. the shell was new and has never been a car so I don't know what model it is. The 86 tank fits the shell but the 83 tank wont due to the corner difference shown by the white arrow. I expect that if I bought a new tank I could just get one to suit an 86 carb model. The problem is a new one isn't cheap and if I can get a good s,hand tank I wont be sure that it will fit unless I get to try it in. Chances of getting a good 86 carb model tank would also be slim. Am dfairly sure that other models will fit but don't know for sure.

The first year E30s (1983) were a weird batch, because they were so new. Within a year though, most bits got standardised so that even the 1987 facelift won't affect things like fuel tanks that much. So I'd expect anything from '85 onwards will be fine for your shell.

Are you putting another carbed engine in it, as carb tanks are very specific for those models (they don't have the pot inside for a fuel pump to sit in).
