When i turn the ignition on, there is nothing. The car doesn't even try to turn over!!!

The car will bump start but not jump start.
The battery is new so im conficent its not that. Ive been informend that the earth off the sump to the car may be the problem but taken it off and cleaned it up and there is still nothing!

Has anyone got any ideas?[/b]

can you hear the starter motor kicking in?any whirring?

if not, and it only bump starts, could be the starter motor.

this is cause bump starting basically does the job of the starter motor (cranking the engine) it just uses the gearbox instead of the starter.

if looking at the starter motor-take a hammer wit you-give it a good whack, incase its stuck.
Failing that it may me an eletrical fault in the ignition circuit (from the socket to the motor)
you are obv getting good spark at the engine side as it runs!

if its eletrical, then theres bound to be someone else along who'se more qualified :D

good luck!

Apply 12V to the smallest terminal on the starter motor (black/yellow wire), by a wire from the battery+, or from the outermost large starter motor terminal. If nothing, then starter motor is dud. If starter engages and turns over, then the problem is in the black yellow wire somewhere between the motor and the starter/ignition switch, including the switch itself. Wire goes through the big C101 plug and sovket on the bulkhead, through a single pin plug and socket above/ behind the glovebox, or a relay if your's is an auto, and along to the ignition switch.
If an auto, there is some more wiring involved from the gear selector to the anbove mentioned relay.
The black/yellow wire also has a branch to pin 11 of the diagnostic socket. Battery 12V+ is on pin 14, so shorting these two together should also work the starter.
