Guys just been looking at the e30 adjustable top mounts, are these to harsh for road use or fine?

I've used them on a few cars and not had an issue. Usually a nice improvement in steering feel, and less harshness / noise and virbration than poly arm bushes give.
Be warned though, even the lightest bit of play in any component or joint in e front end will be amplified and make it sound like the front suspension is falling to bits. They usually have a spherical bearing which will need lubricating regularly, and is likely to need replacing every year or two.
