hi iv got g reg e30 would really like any m10 especially a stock turbo engine or just injection if not then it would have to be a m20b20 or a m40b18

money is a bit tight so a swap would be amazing
i have a m44b19 with a m40 sump on ready to go into a e30 but i cant get my head round the electrics so thats why i want a e30 engine not an e36 engine

are there any other engines anybody would recommend i want about 200-275bhp and as much torque as possible.

im in Cambridgeshire uk i can travel but not far as im relying on other people

sorry if it in the wrong place im new not sure where anything goes

You're not going to get anywhere near that bhp figure if you can't resolve the other two issues.

Here's an article that will help you work out what engine you need:

http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... our_Choice

The M42 info there will also apply to your M44.

You might want to swap an m52 2,8 (195 odd hp) or m30 3,5 (220 odd hp)
M42/44 will never give you 200-

M44 is running 275bhp!, Naturally aspirated? Are you 100% sure about this? if so I'm gonna guess a lot of money has been thrown into the engine. What has been done to the engine to get that sort of power?

it was stoked to a 2.1 using parts out of a 4 pot diesel not sure which one, custom made omega pistons, custom made cams by jr racing 302 and 305 degrees, inlarged valves, port polished (also polished of a crate of beer), remapped (discarded loads of the wire coming out of the ecu, think it only has 7 wires going to the ecu) megasquirt (v2?) oil cooler, 4 individual stainless exhaust pipes

not that much money really when you think what we could of spent on it and we done most of the work on his living room floor. the mega squirt kit just happened to be lying about in another friends shed and the remapping was done for free

he did have a dyno reading not sure if he still has it

So you think getting 250 bhp out of a 90 bhp piece of landfill will be easier than soldering a few wires ? Keep us posted ! :)

I'm sorry but I struggle to see how a 2.1 M44 will make 275hp NA.

An S14 will only make about 280hp as a 2.5L with a lot of work/money.

yeah but this had lots of custom made parts like omega pistons and 303 and 305 degrees cams custom twin titanium valve spings helping it rev to just 9k (i will admit he has broken a few valve spring and a couple of head gaskets)

I'd love to sit and argue my reasons why i seriously doubt what you're saying is true. But I have a set of wheels to polish.

Ye of little faith ! I don't doubt his mate at all, I am sure a couple of rocket scientists and 15k could extract 275 Shetlands out of a M44 , briefly :)

The elusive S42, it is possible for that sort of power but as pete has said, a lot of money and it won't last that long. Im guessing those pistons and and cams weren't cheap, let along the port work done on the head.

Fair play to you and your mate for doing the work tho.

The S42 was built by bmw, not bozzo in his shed.

It probably is possible to get 275hp out of an M44 but like Pete said, you're into serious bucks. And more than 7 wires coming out the ECU

number 1 yes he is a bozzo at time but he was a Australian rme engineer and done some of his training while in the army at holden racing

number 2 me and him have always believed that less wires means more power

id still rather have his old m44 than his new m50tub25

ok the m50 has got 21bhp more but iv got a bet with a guy that i will get more power out of any bmw 4pot than he will get from his m20b23
