Hello all

i'm having trouble with the locking barrel on my 1989 E30 baur.

i recently bought a replacement set from ebay as i lost the key for mine.

when i opened the package i noticed the spring on the end of the drivers side was broken, i've swapped it with the spring off the original.

after i fitted it, it will unlock the car fine but won't lock, it seems as though the arm on the barrel doesn't push down enough. im not sure if it's the barrel or the arm on the lock barrel or the lock catch itself.

i can lock the car fine from inside.

Is the spring correct on this? should it do that?

or it could potentially be this arm on the lock catch has too much play in it?

the passenger side works fine.

Any advice would be great

Thank you

Thank you but i looked at that i noticed the arm is pointing the opposite direction also i has an "L" printed on it whereas mine has an "R" printed on it

is it different for a left and right hand drive car?

I think from those two pictures you should be able to see that your's is wrong.

Remember that Bill is in the USA and so it is a left hand drive car.

There is also the wiki article: http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... ck_Repairs

That shows a right hand drive one.

You have got the spring the wrong way round.

I have yet to find a s/h driver's door lock that works properly.
Most seem to fail on the L shaped bit, most likely caused by the latch partly siezing due to lack of lubrication.

Best bet is to buy a lock repair kit, order from your dealer, for about £20 you get a bag of bits that lets you build up a new lock barrel to suit your key.

Also, remove the latch, clean and lubricate and work by hand until it is smooth and light in operation.
