Hello!
I am francesco from North italy , I have a 1983 635 and a 1974 3,3L Automatic .
I recently purchased a rear view mirror with map lights (for my 635) ad I am trying to understand where those maplights take 12V and ground...
I have loads f BMW information material but nothing talks about that.
The used mirror comes with its additional wire, in order to reach dashboard zone(I believe) , passing inside one of front windshield pillars.
I know that e23s takes 12v/grnd from rear map light (triggered by parking lights) on rear pillars...but my 635 havent and so do e30s ...
Can Anyone help me, please?
I posted here this message as I see that a lot of E30 seems to have that mirror fitted....(at least on cars featured bu totalbmw and bmwcar)
Regards, Francesco from North Italy

On the E30, that long wire travels down the left side A pillar and plugs directly into the accessory power board. Quite how the 6 series works I'm afriad I have no idea!
You could effectively extend the wire to anywhere and chop it into a fused power supply.
