Hi all,

Went about fixing my seats today (not reclining, nor height adjustable), which I succeeded just by lubing the mechanism. :) Still needs new rams, but the seats move/lock fine without them.

Anyway, I thought I'd pull the edges of the carpets to check for rust etc. And lo and behold, it's riddled with the stuff.

Anyway, my question is, what's this part?

It looks like a ram that's terminated inside the cabin, but then goes through the bulkhead? Is it some kind of sprung engine damping bar or something?

Cheers! :)

Joe

(Depressingly, that's the better side of the car too.)

That's the linkage from the brake pedal to the brake servo - the 'ram' as you called it, is part of the brake servo.

Ah, of course - makes sense. Forgot it was on the other side to 'normal'

Thanks both :)

Depends on what you call 'normal',I guess!

It's all down to E30 being a LHD design, then the servo position starts to make sense. From that bracket, there's a push rod running behind the heater to the brake pedal,if you ever need to alter the brake pedal hieght, bear in mind that one end of the rod has a left hand thread.

Normal in that most cars will fit the master cylinder to whatever side the brake pedal is on.

It's only the e30s bodge of a rhd conversion which means you need the linkage, and is one if the reasons why lhd e30s feel a lot nicer to drive.
cheers,

Aye, this is what I meant. I've not owned a car that hasn't moved the booster over when swapping between LHD/RHD.

The bar/rod would also explain the slightly weird (again, compared to cars with the booster behind the pedal box) looking brake pedal connection.
