Hello all. I've been busy fixing up my 325i sport. Have a look at my other thread for more details on that.

I've got question. The engine was taken out by a mechanic who I can't get hold of. I now feel that I will probably want to put the engine back in my self once the body is complete. Getting it in and mounting it to the front beam and the transmission I can do. However does any one have a detailed diagram of the locations, origins and destinations of the hoses /cables.

Another question is it easier to mount the engine onto the front subframe and then lower the shell onto it or is the engine hoist way better. The hoist option scares me coz of scratching the future paint job.

Electrical loom should be fitted to the engine before fitting the engine, and should have come out with the engine when it was removed.
There are two pairs of hoses which can, and often are fitted incorrectly. One pair are the heater pipes, and the other is the fuel feed and return hoses.
Heater pipe which comes from the back of the cylinder head should go to the lower heater stub pipe on the bulkhead, and the fuel feed hose (trace the steel pipe from the filter in front of the LH rear wheel) goes directly to the fuel rail. Other hose is for the fuel return, and goes to the fuel pressure regulator.
If you use an engine hoist, you ideally need a tilting beam, so that you can hold the engine at about 45 degrees to initially drop it in, before levelling it up as the gearbox feeds back under the bulkhead. Clearance is fine on the slam panel, but it does clear. Helps to have the back wheels higher than the front as well.
Whether you fit the engine from above or below is a matter of personal choice - there's advantages and disadvantages to both, but, with a decent hoist, from above is easiest.

It's much better to lower the car onto a built up subframe with engine already attached, I'm fortunate to have a two post ramp which you will need, I can do this in at least half the time of using an engine hoist,

Why did your mechanic do one ? It's a really simple job !
