the car started life as a poo spec 325 with keep fit windows etc. Car was built in Oct 87, so is an early facelift, kit was fitted by supplying dealer when the car was 3 years old at a lovely cost of Ԛ£2800!!!!
Car was registered on 01/01/88 and shares it's birthday with Zaust's ride.

off topic!!
but that is a lovely photo beemerlad

yes both should be dechromed, and my mk1 sport has no map lights.
yes they do..
i said my sport does not have map lights, not all sports dont have map lights!
mine was also made in Japan (or at least assembled) and is an late 87 Mk1 sport. So it is possible that sports were made for different markets at different times in different places.

not impossible if it is not the original plate!! the reg does not necessarily mean the age. they can be made to look older but not newer.

It's not a typical private plate though, it's an age related prefix plate.

was thinking of busting it mate due to rusty bulkhead and rear bushes etc gone, not to mention several other things I had not been bothered to to. It does look clean in that pic, but it is a bit of a rusty old boat to be honest, just one of the better angles!
I was gonna bust it as I knew I would make several times what I paid for it that way and it would lighten the burden on the purchase price on the Soarer, plus the fuel bills

It might have had private plates in the past, but DVLA always issue vehicle with the same Reg as manufactured when private plates are removed. Unless of course some nim-wit at DVLA fcuked up!
It was an actual sport model, i agree (i hpi'd it when bored at work) but 1987 they definately did not make tech 2's.

it was tech2 standard one but didnt have map lights in it, well put it like this it came off the bmw forecourt with a tech 2 kit on any way in 87 so some one working at bmw must have fitted it whilst no one was looking.

But the kit wasn't designed until 1988, the fact it didn't have map lights in the mirror would point to it not being a genuine sport.
Maybe they jumped in Dr Who's tardis and brought a kit back with them!

not all sports had the map reading light mirror, well at least not all tech1 sports. i'm pretty sure it was an option on both tech 1 and 2's

Maybe not the very early tech I's, but if you've got a tech II without, then you've been had, or someone's pinched it, it wasn't an option.

clearly a lot of what i said was bollacx, according to PBMW oct 04 edition the E30 bday edition the Mk1 sports came out from Sept 86, the tech 2 sports came out from Sept 88 (along with the tourings).
anyone disagree?

I don't like the Tech 2 Sports, the bodykit looks too heavy and slabby. The Original looks a lot more classic, especially in Dolphin grey.
yes agree entirely!!
