I took my 1988 E34 535iSE up to an indicated 147 mph on a private runway shortly before discovering that one of the engine mounts wasn't actually attached to the engine!

Ive used M20 mounts from day one and never had a problem, apart from the time i had a test with landrover mounts but they were cheap and nasty type.
Stick with M20 ones or uprate to the burton ones (same dimensions as M20) oh and as Rav says keep the metal cups.

Change the rack now, will be much easier. Good progress

Small update peeps!

Got home after work and got to work on the beast!

Removed the pedal box to realise there's no cutout for the master cylinder so looks like a bit of DIY

From the scrapper:

Thinking i may need one of these?

Also checked my mounts and they look in very good condition!

Got home quite late today so didn't even pull the cover off the beast, focused my attention on the engine and some other bits and bobs.

First got to degreasing then wire wheeling the block of all the old paint:
Image

Then gave it a few coats of Hammerite
Image

Then i focused my attention on the oil filter housing which had seen better days!
Got to degreasing and scrubbing all that old crap off
Before..

and after a few coats of Hammerite hammered silver paint:

Updattteeee timmee!

Been busy today! Ill let the pics do the talking :D

First started by installing the pedal box.. (lee you was right about it only being tacked in 8) )
I gave it a sharp tap with my screwdriver and it popped out!

Image

She now has the correct amount of pedals! winkeye

Image

I then moved onto the clutch side of things:
New pipe mating up to the original metal pipe which was still in good condition:

Image
Image
Image

I then cleaned and fitted the Clutch fluid reservoir
Image

Then moved onto cleaning up the Brake servo which had seen better days
Gave it a rub down and spray:
Image
Image
Image

And after (i forgot to take pics of it before refitting and realised when it was too late :( lol )
Image
Image

I then moved on to the thermostat housing, the end part had seen better days and the bleed screw was finished so i decided to get a new one! winkeye

Image
Image

Also sprayed the rest of the housing to go with it! (dont worry them sensors are the old ones lol)

Image
Image
Image
Image

Also noticed this on the bottom pulley (yeeeehaaaww cowboyssss  )
Image

So i made it right :D
Image

Then i went about sorting out the exhaust:
Wasnt going for the DTM look again so i did a little modification

Image
Image
Image

Then i finished the day off by putting the inlet back together:
Image

and now it is time for bed! lol

No mate :D Thats some caveman business 8O No idea why the tunnel is cut either unless the wrong linkage was used, you need E30 325i.

Cracking progress btw and i love dressing an engine up to make look nice

Which exhaust manifold you got for it?

And thanks lee! You and a few others have been with me from the start of this project and know how much it means to me..and how exciting its getting! :o:

agree with Lee, you should not need to touch the bulkhead, it's a tight fit but there is enough room. Also the 325i linkage fits perfect in the right place exactly.

Great updates, got to love an M30 build, proper hero's chariot !!

Keep the pics coming, if you need any advice drop me a PM

That looks nothing like mine! lmao :D

No, seriously, thats probably why the bulkhead got smashed in to fit that manifold, its best to use E34 manifolds and downpipes that 'sleeve' into an E30 325i system perfectly.

Look like this....

I may be wrong but i think there E28 manifolds

You will need the downpipes too to mate up to your exhaust.
