Being a senile old git I left my lights on this morning so the battery was stone dead when I came back to it tonight.
Is there an after market buzzer you can buy or have any of you whizkids adapted one to work?
I wouldn't mind one for the Six either.

When I was at the breakers the other day, taking apart an e30, I found a lights on warning buzzer, it sat on top of the headlight level adjustment, near the ECU, had two wires coming from it, I was gonna nick it but I was short for time.
I will try to go back next week to get it for myself, but I'll let you know the brand name!! It looked pretty old.

There is/was a proper factory/retrofit job. Good luck finding one though.
Heres a cheap way if you don't mind it buzzing when you open the door with the lights on regardless of the ignition position:
Buy a 12v buzzer (
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Mod ... 13&TabID=1). Wire +ve to the back of the hydraulic headlamp adjuster bulbs. Wire ground to the back of the door jam switch (all handily accessable in that area). Done.
Personally I wouldn't be happy with anything but the OBC gong chiming only if the key was out of the ignition when the door opened though...

so how would one do that?
(Andy, your battery must be on its way out, because a good one should be able to hold its charge with the side lights on over night)

I have seen a wiring set-up on the E24 Roadfly forum sometime in the past. If there's an OE part available I'd rather use that.
Demlotcrew, you're a doomsayer pessimist but I fear you may be right. I bought a battery condition/trickle charger to keep the 6-series alive (it doesn't get out much now) & it says the Tourings battery is around 80%. It was the headlights I left on - I like to do a job properly!

Forgot to say that if you don't use an unused pin of a multipin door switch then the interior lights could possibly get a weak ground back through the adjuster bulbs and the relay. A IN4001 diode from the +ve adjuster bulb to the buzzer would sort that. Otherwise you could have a leeching battery drain problem.
Thought about the OBC chime before. When powered, it chimes once each time the input is grounded. Assuming all the relevent powers and grounds were made available, you'd have to build a timer/oscillator to get the OBC to repeatdly chime as you'd expect. It wouldn't be difficult (a 555 timer would do the trick), but it's not just a case of twisting a few wires together.
I've got a feeling that the E34 gong has multiple inputs for just such circumstances...

A US 635 has this:
A second connector just like that eBay one.
Might be a US thing to have the extra input for the seatbelt warning. They put in the lights/ignition warning for 'free'?
Probably means an E30 one just needs something added inside. I'll take a look when I get a chance.

Thats correct cros, the us market had the seatbelt warning chime. I looked at the UK ones and they seem to have the provisions but the pins are not in the case.

I knew I'd seen something on this topic whilst wearing my 635 hat.
I have an article (nicked from an American E28 owner) which describes how to utilise the existing gong.
Ignoring the "shut you door" parts it should give enough info for smart Brits to get the same result.
Now I just have to figure out how to post it . . .

E34 (92 vintage) gong has two input plugs, one with same connections as the E30 gong, and the second one with another power input and ground, and two signsl inputs.
I had it connected up on the bench a couple of months ago, but didn't write the results down (or can't remember that I did or where), but IIRC one of the IPs gave a repeating gong.

I bought a lights on warning gong from Motorists discount Centre for Ԛ£7.99 - dead easy fit, just remove the drivers side scuttle panel (remove one screw that holds it, this screw also is one of 4 which hold the speaker on. Inside, trace the wire off the drivers side interior light switch. use piggyback connector to connect 1 wire from gong to this. Other gong wire connects to sidelight lead off lighting switch - this is easy to get at if you remove the trim panel under the st/wheel and undo 4 x 10mm bolts holding the ECU in place - just pull the ecu down (don't unplug it!) and the lighting loom is easy to get at the back of the light switch. The wire is grey/white from connection 1 on plug. A genuine half hour start to finish mod.
Cheers

Hi,
There is a lights on indicator (complete retrofit kit) on the ETK.
Part No. 82 93 9 401 607. Looks to be about Ԛ£60.
Not sure if its exactly what your after, or how its fitted. I'd be interested in fitting one to my car (i've had a flat battery before now aswell!!).

I think the MDC gong at Ԛ£7.99 will do nicely.
Thanks

have found box the gong from EBC came in - made by cosmic automotive, part no. C278 - 2 wires - black wire goes to door light switch, red wire goes to wire to sidelights (for neg earth, i.e. all E30's) reverse wires for +earth vehicle. As said before, cheap, easy fit works!!
