I have a clean 2 door 1.6, although I love the car I'm wanting to upgrade various items, have already put pop out windows in it, and now am thinking about brakes, can't see it that much to buy some discs and second hand callipers...

I have 2 questions, first one is...as a 'G' reg, 1.6 I'm assuming it will have a different set up to, say, a 325? Is it a case of me buying discs and callipers? (And maybe braided lines) and swapping them over? Will say that I also have coilovers so I already have 325 struts (if that helps)

Second question is....I have drum on the rear, obviously wanting to go for a disc..what would I need for said conversion?

Thanks in advance people..

you will have solid discs on the front if your car is a 2dr-4dr saloon ,the 325i has vented discs and matching calipers .if your car is a touring or cab you should already have this set up .

i will have the full rear disc set up available later today after i've removed it from the car.
it will include the rear arms, discs and rear calipers also the h/brake cables .

the arms are from a touring so it has the better rear brake calipers with the larger pistons.

Yeah it has the solid discs on the front, so it's just a case of bolting the vented discs on and new callipers? Everything lines up okay? Are 325 callipers larger?

Yeah interested in your rear set up depending on price obviously...

325 (or any E30 other than small engined saloons, without ABS) front calipers use the same pistons and pads as your current calipers, but because vented discs are much thicker than non vented ones, the space where the pads fit is much wider.
Touring rear calipers use a piston that is slightly larger than that on non touring versions. The difference is small, and can't in any way be considered an 'upgrade' over the smaller ones, but it should be borne in mind if at any time you replace one caliper, to make sure you get a matching one.
