To change out the rear crank oil seal I have removed the housing from the block. Is it necessary to change the steel gasket (item 10) when refitting the housing to the engine or will it be ok to reuse it? It came away in one piece but it looks like it used to have a coating of some sort - some of this has worn off.

For the price if the part if be replacing.

You don't want to be taking the gearbox back out when it's leaking.

When you put it like that it sounds sensible to replace it.

Is it the same story for other steel gaskets (timing case etc), can these not be reused?
