I called him a tit cos he looks like he doesn't really know what he's doing, and he's doing it in arguably one of the rarest cars in the world!!!!
I would guess that there are less than ten of those works prepped Group B E1/E2 quattros left. There are much more common, powerful, 4WD rally cars out there to 'Learn' to drift in.......
It would be a real shame if he was to kill it by driving like that!!!!
(but maybe it's just cos i'm jealous?? dunno??)

he didn't crash it, or even spin it (unless they edited that out) and that is hard not to do
when I first raced at Silverstone, I had no idea how each corner 'worked', so I spun off many times, but I gradually learned, and span off less each lap.... after practice, I was called up in front of the Clerk of the Course...
'Mr X, I hope you are not going to drive like that on my circuit in the race?'
'Of course not sir - I was merely learning your circuit'
he might be learning the car...
if I owned such a car, I'd be driving it's nuts off too - I don't believe in putting cars in cotton wool, just cos they are rare.

Just found this
http://a178.v096910.c9691.e.vc.akamaist ... inal_b.wmv
Not excellent quality but you can clearly see that the cars are travelling sideways before and then through the corners. From the apex onwards the wheels are facing the same way as the car although it is still travelling sideways, a 4 wheel drift!!!
You can also see why Group B got cancelled. All the spectators stood lining the roads, and in the roads as the cars pass. As you can appreciate, the cars aren't exactly going slow, and are prone to 'falling' off the road......

There are two in my home town, one 650 BHP version belongs to a collector, the other is hill-climbed by Phil Short. (Head of Ford World rally team.) Awesome machines.I would guess that there are less than ten of those works prepped Group B E1/E2 quattros left.
BTT. You won't see a better example of drifting a four wheel drive car than this.(Right click and 'save as', 66Mb download, well worth it tho', Ari Vatanen on Pikes Peak.)

I thought Malcolm Wilson was head of Fords World Rally Team?? I met him at Rally Catalunya in 2004 as part of a VIP tour of the teams service area etc.

What a load of internet crap, the sort of pointless post the net seems to be full of.
Everyone knows that when people now say "drifting" they are referring to the arse out action of the japanese derived sport.
The jukes of hazzard were doing the same thing 30 years ago, but the term hadnt became trendy back then.
"4 wheel drift" and "drift" are only subtley different IMHO
In a driving context, the term Drift implies that one or more ends of the car is held in a controlled slide through a corner or down a straight, 4 wheel drift implies the same thing but specifically for both ends.
If you want to get really funny about the original meaning of the word, they had snow drifts thousands of years before cars existed, and that had nothing to do with how many wheels were involved.

Anyone seriously interested in finding out and learning how to 4 wheel drift should pay Andy a visit http://www.carlimits.com/
Done a couple of days with him and they are great, very good VFM and he teaches you everything slip angles to H&T
This thread is quite amusing with the amount of misunderstanding between us all

Looks like a bloody good day out that for 170 quid each
Have ordered the DVD, might book up for a day doing that.
If i do then i will take the E30 325 if its wet, but for a dry day i think i will need the cossie as the beamer just doesnt have enough power to drift in 3rd etc

Malcolm is team manager, Phil Short is his boss. I know Phil very well and I've met/competed against Malcolm several times (in the 80sTommyC wrote:I thought Malcolm Wilson was head of Fords World Rally Team?? I met him at Rally Catalunya in 2004 as part of a VIP tour of the teams service area etc.
Both are top guys.
Phil Short was David Llewlyn's navigator when he was British rally champion.

Ahh, I stand corrected!!
I met David Llewelyn a couple of years back at a tour of the Prodrive factory in Banbury. Damn Cool place!!
Before then i'd never realised that Prodrive were more than a rally team. The subaru WRC team are less than 1/4 of what Prodrive get up to!!!
