Im about to fit a e46 clubsport rack onto my 30, I have a 6 branch mani on atm (unsure of the brand) and have got a danthe linkage and e34 knuckles... no how can I stop the linkage hitting the manifold? Is there any tricks I can do to make more room between the two?
Thanks in advance

Depends entirely on the manifold.wullie325i wrote:with dans kit you should get it in there with enough room i would have thought?.
It's a relatively simple job to move the steering column over a bit where it comes through the bulkhead.

How much clearance would this give? It might be an option for the M42 and E46 rack.Brianmoooore wrote: It's a relatively simple job to move the steering column over a bit where it comes through the bulkhead.
I've seen you mention this before, but I can't find any thread showing what's involved in moving the column.

Have you helicoiled the ujs and used recessed hex bolts? This will give you a bit more clearance than the standard nut and bolt (as shown in danthe's steering linkage thread):

The extra clearance depends on exactly where the point of least clearance is. The closer to the top of the link, the greater the effect.jmc330i wrote:How much clearance would this give? The bottom of the steering column is located by a flat plate with a sleeve, bolted to the bulkhead. It's easy enough to fabricate a replacement with a larger plate and the sleeve moved towards the wing a little, possibly enlarging the hole in the bulkhead and repositioning the outer mounting bolt.
Move it too far, and it will foul the pedals, but this can be overcome if need be with a little bending and/or cutting down the width of the pedal pivot bushes and adding spacers.
The top of the column isn't rigidly mounted and will twist across with no problem.
