Try spraying some brake or carb cleaner, or Easi Start/Start ya Bastard down the throttle body while cranking the engine over.

Bench test of a fuel pump does not prove it's good. When the starter motor is operating, the voltage at the pump drops way below 12 volts, and one that tests good out of the car might just stall.
Try powering it independently from a second battery on the back seat pan, so that it is up and running before attempting to start the car, and not affected by the voltage drop.
Make sure you connect the power the right way around.

Use a multimeter or test lamp with one wire connected to body earth and the other used to establish which terminal goes live (+12V) with the engine turning over.
Then connect battery + to this connection and battery - to the other.

Or you could just look at the colour of the wires going into the pump plug.
On all BMWs, brown is earth, red is permanent live, purple is first ignition switch position switched live and green, white and black are second ignition switch position live.
One pump wire is brown, so that is negative, and the other has green as the main colour, so that is positive.

Thank you all for your advice - turned out to simply be a blocked fuel filter
