Whats the difference between pre and post 1988 power steering racks and how do I tell what one I have got?
Also, will I matter if I fit the wrong one?

Sorry to ask a question so early on a monday!

The 316i/318i (M40 engine) have an aluminium rack and the 320i/325i (M20) have a steel rack, but i'm not sure if they fitted the Ali one to the later M20 cars, Not a lot of help but maybe someone else will be able to confirm it.
There is NO nucleus.

Can anyone else shed some light on this please?

GSF list:
E30 3 Series 82-88 Power B43010 Ԛ£125
E30 3 Series 88-90 Power B43015 Ԛ£189

My cab is an '88 pre facelift with post facelift headlights. How do I know which one to get?

Its getting a bit desperate now.

ive interchanged them many a time and never had a problem, the only thing you have to watch is that on 4 cylinder models the power steering hose from the rack to pump is shorter than the 6 cylinder (longer engine),i tried this once and i had to do a bit of extending (not recommended but it worked!)
