I finally got round to fitting my e46 rack today, it all went well but the tyres are catching on the arb when at full lock on both sides. This is the setup I have:
  • E46 067 rack
  • Hartge wheels (16x7.5 et25)
  • H&R anti roll bar
  • Eccentric control arm bushes
  • Eibach springs
  • Bilstein B8 dampers
I've not had the tracking done yet but it doesn't look to far out at the moment. Has anyone else had this problem? And if so what did you do about it? The only ways around this that I can think of are to either limit the rack travel (is this possible?) or to use some wheel spacers, which I'd rather not do if I can help it.

Cheers

Solution is to limit the rack travel, as is done with the Z3 (?) rack as standard. There are more sophisticated methods, but a couple of jubilee clips on the rack, just inside the inner ball joints, will do.

It's common that H&R ARB's rub on full lock, Demlotcrew had it I'm sure... There is a pic on here somewhere detailing an Eibach and an H&R and you can clearly see the H&R shape would have more chance of fouling the tyres. It is possibly a combination of that plus your Hartge wheels being larger than 15" BBS causing the issue?

Either way, I don't think it is the end of the world HTH

EDIT: I have Demlotcrews old H&R kit on the car in my avatar pic, I've also got an E46 rack, the car passed it's last MOT ok but I've not driven it for at least 18 months so couldn't tell you if it is a problem you can live with :(
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

Thanks for the replies, I think I'll give the jubilee clips a go.

When i had H&R bars, eccentric bushes and 16" Alpinas on i also had rubbing issues and technically its an MOT fail but i found when the car was raised with the wheels off the ground which is when the wheel is rotated during an MOT, it did not touch.

I'm pretty sure E36 M3 3.0's use rack lock limiters.

I take it the car wasn't tested in the correct manor on turn plates with an assistant doing a lock to lock check?

Definitely a fail if the tester is doing his job properly!
