325i sports of any type did not have an M badge front or rear factory fitted but the commonly were dealer fitted when new front rear or both.
Mine had a rear one from new and now has a front one instead.
(Waits for the ensuing debate)

I have had one that had none (thought it was a little odd or suspected someone stole them but no scratches/signs of removal), was 1 owner (old timer) so I doubt he would have bothered to remove the badges.

Did get asked a few times if it was the real deal, of course I left them thinking and never confirmed.Blitz wrote:Its better without I think.

If there isn't a 'M' on the cam cover, without a 'B' and a 'W' either side of it, then there shouldn't be one anywhere else on the car either.

Well that is a valid opinion to a degree and this subject has as you know been done to death but M also stands Mtechnic as well as Motorsport.Brianmoooore wrote:If there isn't a 'M' on the cam cover, without a 'B' and a 'W' either side of it, then there shouldn't be one anywhere else on the car either.
Factory M badged cars that didn't have an "M" engine were E12 and E28 M535i's.

Indeed the use of the M badge is ridiculous. Only one person has ever asked if my Sport was an original M3 and that was about 8 years ago by a teenage kid.jimbom30cab wrote:yer the thing is that everyone, even the mighty 116d have ///M badges stuck on the back so i can't be arsed with people asking..... is it an M3?? and having to say....no but you can have an ///M badge on it was optional when new ......blar blar blar blar.....
Anyone who's into cars (not just BMW's) knows what an E30 M3 looks like by now.

Mtechnic e30 with mtechnic kit with mtechnic decals, steering wheel, gear knob with M badges, mtechnic suspension
Etc, yet some say it shouldn't have an m badge on
The m3 has its own m3 badges that say m3, so these are not for the m3 or taken from an m3

The rear one is the same as the m part of the rear m3 badge.pukar wrote:I think Polska makes a valid point, what else did BMW make the badge for? It's not an m3 badge...BenHar wrote:If only you'd been in charge of production at the time, eh, Polsta?polsta wrote:

The front one? Well, they'll sell an old tat to anyone gullible enough to buy it. Have you seen some of the junk they sell in the accessory catalogues?
cheers,

But the "M"...stands for motorsport not "mtechnic" so it should only be used on m powered cars.
So theres still a grey area on the motorsport cabs

Motorsport cabs, made in the Motorsport workshop should they have the little M, it's a difficult question but I think the M should stand for "Monster" so if it's not the real beast they should have left the badges on the shelf.macas wrote:But the "M"...stands for motorsport not "mtechnic" so it should only be used on m powered cars.

Nowadays the M+3 only equals "(either they are eating it or making it) Money, money, money" yeah sing it a˜a

Well if BMW deemed it ok then its fine by me.dusty23 wrote:That shouldn't have one either
Of course M stands for Motorsport, but what do you think M technic is?!macas wrote:But the "M"...stands for motorsport not "mtechnic" so it should only be used on m powered cars.

Motorsport technic!
So a solitary M badge is also reference to M technic.
Motorsport cabrios were not built a the Motor sport factory in Gaching otherwise they would have a WBS vin code, which they dont.Fastroad wrote:Motorsport cabs, made in the Motorsport workshop should they have the little M
A 325i Sport is closer to an M power car than a 325i Motorsport convertible as the Sport has an LSD and a close ratio gearbox as standard where on the Motorsport cabrios, both were an option.

Always thought they were made at Gaching that's why they were limited in numbers, guess I got that wrong. So they were made at the main Munich-Milbertshofe factory, learn something new every day a˜Šbss325i wrote:Motorsport cabrios were not built a the Motor sport factory in Gaching otherwise they would have a WBS vin code, which they dont.Fastroad wrote:Motorsport cabs, made in the Motorsport workshop should they have the little M

Nope, they were built at Regensburg along with tourings and E34's.Fastroad wrote:Always thought they were made at Gaching that's why they were limited in numbers, guess I got that wrong.
