Mine was july 86 Barry.
No VIN numbers with me atm.
I know there was a black press car before mine though.

Mine is an August 86' ending with 1881094...

Why does this matter?

I'm sure George's white 325i convertible was an '86 car.

To answer some questions,

the car i looked at was zinober red with black leather.

It was chassis 1882004, the fourth RHD 325iA convertible ever built!

It also happened to have an option code S903A, Motor show preperation and is rumoured to be a 1986 Birmingham NEC motor show car.

What's also interesting is that the car was not registered for nearly another 3 years until 1989 when it got an F plate! Apparently retained by BMW.

Yes sorry i misread your initial post.

1881*** are manual 325i cabrios and 1882*** are auto cabrios.

Using the, http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html

It seems the first cars were built one per month as 1882001 is the first RHD 325iA cabrio and was built in April, then 2002 in May, 2003 in June then the 2004 car i saw today in July.

Interestingly, 2001 and 2002 did not have option code S903A Motor show prep where as 2003, 2004 did.

So what exactly did the option code S903A Motor show prep consist of?
