Basically the front end was about as solid as a crisp packet. I bought the car for I purchased a M3 last year with the intention of building something with 350 BHP per ton......

After looking at many a rotbox offered for sale for at £8k to £12k and really clean tidy ones up to £22k.
Nearly purchased a nice Maccau but she was too nice to rip apart so i told the guy owned her
"I was going to look for something that needed some TLC......"

I found a Alpineweiss II for £15k looked at it a couple of times and walked away.
I finally got so p*ssed off looking at other cars and getting messed about by some total lemons, disturbing hpi checks etc....
I went back to do a deal with the trader got some reddies out in front of him we shook hands at £11k for the Alpineweiss II.

First impressions were good the car had some nice bits and some bad bits. She drove really well compared to some of the others i drove but not for long.....

GOOD BITS

LOTS OF BILLS AND INVOICES
FRESH REBUILT ENGINE
GENUINE 16" ALPINAS
ALPINA STEERING WHEEL
EVO 2 LIP
COMPLETE INTERIOR
95% OF EVERYTHING WORKED
FULLY POLYBUSHED
MINIMAL ROT
EVO 2 PAINTED ENGINE
FULL MILLTEK STAILESS EXHAUST

BAD BITS

STICKING CLUTCH SLAVE
SCABBY ROOF PANEL
DASH BULBS DIM AND BLOWN
PASSENGER DOOR HAD SOME RUST BUBBLES WHERE IT HAD BEEN REPLACED WITH A NON M3 DOOR
SUNROOF WORKED INTERMITTENTLY
SOME DENTS AND NOT PERFECT REPAIRS..........
CRACKED PASSENGER WING MIRROR HOUSING
OH A FRONT END REPAIRED BY SOME ISOPON EXPERT........

Basically the car had been pulled back into measurement and cheated with a truck load of sealer, filler and paint.
Cracks started to appear behind the drivers turret and flitch panel so after some investigation we decided a little nip and tuck was required!
Turned out to be a face transplant OH DEAR.......

A lot of wire wheels to remove paint and a small amount of filler and sealer i got a bit down and thought oh well time to chuck in the scrap yard and break it!

The damage was to to the front passenger turret, firewall, passenger cill
The donut who repaired the car previously over pulled the front chassis rails and stressed the sheet metal in the firewall and floor pans leading to some rot starting........

So drastic measures were called for!

So you must all be thinking this gezzas FOOKIN MAD! Probably but there was no way this old rust bucket was going to kick my arse......

I added up the cost of panels and sections from the dealership and thought thats it scrap it!

But no lets do it the green way and recycle all that was practical. I took my petrol cutter up to Norfolk and found a 316i that was owned by some old dear since new it had covered 63k when she seized the engine the body was in great condition.

And this this in 20 minutes chucked my "NEW" front end in the back of my van!

I still needed to get some bits ready for surgery.....

SURGERY SUPPLIES

1 X DONOR NON SUNROOF ROOF SKIN
2 X SOLID FLOOR PANS
1 X NEW SCUTTLE
1 X NEW FRONT PANEL
1 X NEW REAR PANEL
1 X NEW PASSENGER DOOR
2 X NEW INNER CILLS
2 X NEW OUTER CILLS
2 X NEW INNER FRONT WING SUPPORTS
2 X NEW FRONT BUMPER BRACKETS
2 X FABRICATED JACKING POINTS
1 X ADDITIONAL DIFF MOUNT

Then after a couple of evenings and weekends she was ready to go for a acid scrub and E-Coat bath.........

When she came back she was ready to empty my wallet, savings and, max the plastic!

I could finally see the fruits of my labour and to think I nearly scrapped her!

Oh yeah forgot to say it is RHD now don't waste your energy and say oh no it is an M3 blah blah! This thing was nearly tin cans or shopping trolleys! It is however the closest thing to a factory Rhd E30 M3 that you will get.

She is 98% complete now and terrorising supercars @ 1330 KG with 585 BHP that is 439 BHP per ton. Just to put that into perspective that is more than a Porsche Carrera GT. A few zoners have been passengers and just laughed at how quick it really is.

Man, M3's are a dime a dozen out in the UK it seems!!

Epic rebuild - doing the same myself but nearest I could find to an M3 was a 318iS... Would never have changed the engine personally but respect the beautiful work you've done.. :thumb:

318iS is, of course, the "baby M3" and some would argue, probably the better car.
