what size engine have you got already?
yeah the engines physically fit in fine, it's the wiring and stuff that's a pain to change over (if necessary)...

Take your point.
Adam... Is there a story behind the Z3 that I don't know about...?
Bimbo... no real point in changing from a 1.8 4 cylinder to a 2.0 6 cylinder - LOTS of work and no real gain. You need to go for a 2.5 litre 6 cylinder unit... 170bhp instead of 129 from the 2.0 litre...

Debs, a 2.5 engine can be had for about Ԛ£250. the wiring loom and ECU will probably cost you another Ԛ£100 problems then arise when you run a 2.5 litre 170bhp engine through a 1.8 litre cars diff. They tend to fry with all the power going thru, so add Ԛ£50 for a 325 diff (open diff) or Ԛ£250 for a Limited Slip Diff.

Debs, if you like your car, and you really like the m3 kit, keep the 1.8 until you have some spare cash, then get some of the guys off here to do the transplant for you, or it will cost u a bomb in a garage!
I personally would save my money and buy a 325 or a real M3. Its not really worth all the hassle unless you intend spending loads on your car.

Deb, I have a 1990 320i I am removing all the running gear from, so the loom, and all the other bits will be available at a sensible price, u can even have the engine for a good price too, but as someone else said, ur better off getting a 2.5 to start with. I also have a couple of 2.5 Ecu's as well.
The 2 litre and 2.5 Engine looms are the same.
Kind regards
Andy

I have a 325 engine and gearbox in the garage doing nothing, Andy has a loom and ECU, so technically the parts can already be supplied. lol
