I have a alpine white e30 touring which I am aiming to get on the road in feb as my daily.

Im 19 and love my old cars. I currently have a mk2 golf.

Image

which I plan on re-building and making it a show car.

back to bimmer stuff. I got a mint tail gate and sprayed it up black, also the section under the light where the boot opening button is I am in the process of spraying black, it has elect tape on it at the moment so I could see what it looked liked.

I have reffurbed the original 14" bbs alloys black and fitted some new tyres.

along with some other black touches like the brake ducts etc etc.. I think it looks great.

Image

Image

it needs a few touches up before its on the road.

I like to keep it all original but as its my daily a few modern comforts... why I call it oem+

I have fitted remote central locking because I have a crappy house key cut to fit the locks which doesn't fit properly and the barrel on the drivers door was worn but all the electrics worked fine so the cheapest and best option was an £8.99 kit off ebay.

I am also in progression of fitting a very decent stereo system as I love my music. alpine tyre R speakers all round running off an amp and a 12" jbl sub I fitted into a WWII ammo crete running off a separate amp.

Image

my speaker set up in the back, modified the original speaker pods to fit my alpine 13cm speakers and mounted the tweeters. it sits 1mm away from hitting the carpet box section so im gunna have to do some adjustments.

Image

If I undo the top two screws that hold the pod up, twist it anticlockwise I can move it down about 3mm, that with abit of sanding down of the wooden collar and it should fit very snug.

Image

Image

that's as far as I got with it so far. hope you like it, I will keep updating. if you don't like it keep your opinions to yourself because its my car :)

always ready to hearing some decent advice though.

cheers.

also my future plans for the bmw go like this...

new front valence and fit fogs. if anyone has an alpine white one let me know!!

front squirter doesn't work. motor is fine as I tested it so must be something to do with the stalk.

back squirter works, you can see the water get near the wiper motor then it shuts off and it runs back down into the water reservoir. needs fixing

fit a roof rack.

lower it 60mm on springs.

and do the cambelt at somepoint as it has 145,000 on the clock and hasn't been done since 80,000 :/

that's about it :D

also does anyone know what this thing does which obviously pushes down when you shut the bonnet?

Image

it has a pink wire attached which run to under the dash which you can get to when you take the glove box out?

there are a lot of wires in this area. which I found out the other day and saw some shocking stuff there. cables striped and twisted together then abit of elect tape :/
as I am a electrician this nearly gave me a heart attack along with some wires just swaying in the wind copped and connected to nothing!

everything electrically seems to work so far though...

all cars have alarms and removed, chances are some 20+ year old cars have had a few alarms down the years, it looks like a bonnet alarm sensor, and its rusting- get rid it of !!!

a white touring is a nice car when its gleaming, but thaty black tailgate looks naff imo, but each to their own

roof rack fwt

Yes welcome mate! I totally agree with Cypriot - can't please everyone, and why should you when it's your car :)

Nice golf too by the way, actually quite like the wheels on it :thumb:

Yeah I thought the black tailgate wouldn't be to everyones taste but yeah its my car and its just random' it has a blsck on white theme through out :)
No its an original alpine white, that photo of my ammo sub is in my golf which was red originally.
Why it needs to be off the road and completely rebuilt to be my show car.
Yeah the wheels off the golf are from a isuzu piazza from the 1980's. 4x100 fitted straight on and mirror polished them up. I love them and you certainly wont find an other set.

Bmw news now. Stereo is all fitted. Sounds awesome, only thing left to do is hide my amps in the rear right hand side boot space.

The loose wires in the front I found were from an old alarm fitted so thats good news.

More news. I am now getting it on tge road for tge 1st of jan as I cant wait any longer! ! Putting it in for an mot asap to see how it does. Everything is done now to be road ready except making the front squirt work which I am looking at tonight.
Then its just saving up to lower it, do cam belt and new front valance with fogs to finish it
In the process of detailing her and making her shiny again!

Any common mot failures I should check first?

MOT's and old cars, rusty brake/fuel lines.
Old perished rubbers.
Rust near suspension components.
Handbrake efficiency.

Tourings seam to do better on rust than some other body shapes.

hi guys, been a while.

touring on the road, passed mot first time.
only advisories were brakes all around would benefit from being done soon. done the rears, il do the front soon.

have loved driving it! had a couple of engine problems with idling, new throttle body with TPS and a new IVC and she runs sweet.

as any typical m40 with 140,000 miles plus she is abit tappet still when cold. but as the cambelt is way over due I plan to do that in the next couple of weeks with the help of a fellow e30 friend and I plan on doing the tappets then whilst we are at it.

few changes... I have fitted a roof rack with English oak planks inbetween. I did this myself and I am very happy with the result.

took ages measuring it all out but I am abit of a perfectionist. 8 hours later and 32 rivet nuts later it was complete.

its certainly will come in handy as I plan on lots of road trips!

Image

apart from that there isn't a lot of changes as I havnt had much money because as a 19 year old my bmw 1.8 insurance isn't very low... finally paid that off now so I can make stuff happen!

I fitted rear electric windows today, the drivers side works fine but now the remote centeral locking doesn't on that door which I will look into tomorrow which should be something stupid I done!

the passenger side isn't working though... the down button is illuminating but the up isn't... I think I might have a break in the wire somewhere? :/ I will swap the electric windows looms over I fitted to check it isn't a dodgy loom that side then if that doesnt work I suppose il be taking all the passenger side apart...

apart from that its all going well and loving my e30!

my next plan after cambelt and tappets is to buy a 60/40mm lowering kit (please no lectures on how that's going to ruin the ride and handeling blah blah, arch gap is a crime to me so its got to be done!) hopefully this will make me love it even more and improve the looks dramatically.

then I need to fit myself a new alpine white front valance is good condition! and fog lights will be fitted. then apart from that its just little touch up bits here and there...

one pain in the arse job im not looking forward to but has to be done soon as my rear passenger has a wig on head lining when they sit in the back is re-covering my headlining which is saggier then my nan. it is actually covering a quarter of my rear view out of the rear window!!

there is a dent in the bottom of both doors on the passenger side which I plan on filling and spraying, aswell as respraying my tailgate back white!! (great news for a lot of you I imagen as no one liked my black tailgate, and I totally agree now a white one will look a million time better) then finally new black bumper insert all the way around as mine have seen better days!

then she should be in a very respectable condition as my little daily lugger,

she isn't mint and she isn't fast but shes mine and has decent mpg for an old girl! 30mpg on the motor way!

I have many road trips planned for my touring and I know she will do me proud.
