I have driven a m20 many times before in my time and I can assure you for me they are not fast cars in fact I do not think any original E30's are fast cars. My understanding is that there were built for a specific purpose which was to give the realest driving experience making the driver feel connected with the machine in many ways. I feel that BMW at the time delivered and did so very well.

A fairly fast car for me if I must admit is the E92 M3 to which I was lucky enough to own for about a week. For the super cars such as the Lambo, Porsche and Ferrari's... These are built for speed more so then your regular 3 series.

The aim for me was just to find out how I can achieve a little more punchyness low down which im sure with a few not so expensive modifications can be done. I respect the age and condition of the vehicle and the health of the engine. It with all honesty has been very well looked after. I do not expect my car to go off the line like a rocket in anyway at all.

If possible to get her of the line a little quicker then normal would be more than fine for me, as I have said before purely for those days in the summer on the stretch at santa pod.

No traffic lights for me I can not afford to loose my licence at this age and go do the test again no no no way can I risk that.

A M52B28 would be nice in a e30 im sure but I do not know If Id justify spending that money on an old turd. The Love and hate relationship with my e30 is something which stops me spending bucket loads on it and keeps the lights on in the house.

Thanks for the help so far guys i really do appreciate it all.

The longer the short of it, there are no simple cheap modifications you can do that will give much of an improvement. (Well there is, it's fitting a bigger engine).

It's an m42, without serious money being thrown at it it's not going to be faster. Stick an m20 lightened flywheel on, chip it and be done with your lot.

Its as simple as If i want a fast car I should save hard and go out and buy one - this makes more seance to me. I should just enjoy the little pug for what it actually is and with all due respect to BMW it is honestly a very tight little motor works well both in town and on the motorway.

However I do adore the sound of the six pots.
