Best to stick with original leads and i use ngk plugs which are very good, hesitation can be many things like dirty fuel filter, clogged injectors or distributor rotor worn.

M20 engines do have a bit of hesitation due to the nature of the management system; the vane-style air flow meter doesn't help. Best you can do is give it a good service and get the injectors reconditioned by Injectortune.

Plugs should be BRP6ES, leads should only be BMW.
