I took the old smog control pipes out of my early exhaust manifold and had plugs made up to seal the input holes in the manifold. I removed the rest of the set up that these pipes connected to that ran back to air box. The car seems a very down on power and it is not running very smooth. Is there anything that needs reset after this stuff has been removed?

IIRC it is a early 323i L jet with (without) nasty air injection emission crap.

I assume there is all sorts of vacuum controlled solenoids etc ? I would be aiming for replumbing everything as per a non emission controlled Euro car .
Not being familiar with Aussie market emission crap I am not sure what exactly they have. I believe it is similar to 80s Swedish and Swiss market stuff and not quite as tragic as US market BMWs.

Best bet is to find somebody with a Euro car, there must be a few of them over there or post on one of the Aussie forums as I am sure plenty of people have been in your position before.
If you cannot find any easy answers, understanding what the 'smog' devices do is the key to deciding what to remove and how.
