Starting to think I may be missing some wiring.

Can't find anything to plug into these on top of the injector/fuel rail.

I also have 1 plug left, but 2 different places in which it seems to be able to fit
Here, on what I assume is the Idle Control Valve

And Here, on the TB

Sockets on fuel rail are for the lambda sensors.
What colour are the wires in your left over plug?

Pin 1 looks to be White with a green strip
Pin 2 red with white strip
Pin 3 White and yellow

ICV then

The TPS plug is usually in convoluted tubing and on a much longer length of wire

Get rid of that bodged up bolt in a hose too, it will leak sooner or later and cause possible overheating, no need for it at all

Cheers Dan. God knows where the tps plug is then. I'll have to go searching.

The engine is exactly as I bought it a year or so ago from a bloke in Barry island. Once I've proved everything works as it should then the plan is to start putting things right. I agree that certain "fixes" leave a lot to be desired!!!!

That will be Ant's old engine then, and one of my looms, so the plugs should have identifying letters on them
Have you checked Pin 20 of the C101 yet? Make sure you do before turning the ignition on winkeye

Where would the letters be Dan? Had a look at the icv plug and I can't see anything so they may be long gone.

They will be on the plug, thinking about it as it was Ants second loom I may have left them off.
FYI that loom has fuses built into the lambda wiring (inside the fuel injector plug box) as Ant was using extended lambda sensors which caused a short first time round

Theres no sign of any lambda sensors and the exhaust that came with it just has 2 bungs in it. Could he have been running without lambda sensors? I assume not.

OK, the hunt for the TPS wiring continues!!!!

I've removed the inlet manifold to take a good look at what wiring I have, and I seem to have 11 wires in the loom in this area.
Image

1 thick wire going to the injector rail - obviously not this one.
1 going to the knock sensors (splits out into 2) - obviously not this one.
1 going to the alternator - obviously not this one.
1 going to the back of the oil filter housing (assume oil temp or pressure) - obviously not this one as only 1 wire and a 2 pin plug.
1 going to the bottom of the inlet manifold - obviously not this one as only a 2 pin plug.
1 to the water temp (splits into 2 for each sensor) - obviously not this one.
2 going to the starter motor - obviously not this one.
2 going to the front of the engine (cam and crack pulse generators?) - not these ones as wrong shaped plugs.

Only leaves this one
1 going to near the sump, assume oil level sensor. Surrounded in corrugated like plastic.

Either this is the plug for the TPS and NOT the oil level sensor (same sized plug for both sensors), or I'm missing the TPS cabling all together!!! :o:

Wiring diagram is here, which will give you the wiring colours: http://www.autolib.diakom.ru/CAR/BMW/19 ... S/2431.pdf
http://www.autolib.diakom.ru/CAR/BMW/19 ... S/2432.pdf

An unmodified ECU would get upset at the lack of lambda signals, but a simple 1 volt square wave generator running at about 2Hz would keep it happy.

Ah, most helpful. The wires on the plug in question are

pin 1 = brown
pin 2 = black
pin 3 = red with grey stripe.

So it does indeed look like this is for the TPS rather than the oil level sensor. I guess the question is where is the oil level sensor? Should I just leave it unplugged, or remove it and make a blanking plate? My car does have the on-board display panel being a pov spec 316, so not sure it would have registered anywhere anyway.

Only practical way to get the oil level sensor to work, would be to swap in a six pot main loom and fusebox. The 'check' system wiring is integral with the main loom.

The engine loom wont have an oil level sensor plug.

If you want to remove the sensor you can buy a blanking plate from BMW, part numbers here - http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=11&fg=10

Cheers guys. Think for now I'll just leave the sensor in place and get the cap when I come to tidy things up. :thumb:
