Engine swap advice

I'm thinking about doing some upgrades on my 1987 316 and I need some advice on what to do, any advice? Thanks Brad.

First question though, how much money do you have to spend?

Just looked at your that post, mine is almost identical to that, except it's done slightly more mileage and has the BBS wheels, now I'm thinking about just doing the little bit of restoration required, but if I were to change the engine I would have about £500.
