Not much of an activist on the zone but do like to ask the odd dabble?
basically I'm next to close to getting the iS on the road again after 4 months on holiday in my back garden. nothing major that should affect the running of the car but after a scare of over heating and the fan not kicking in for the second time, i whipped the head of and sent it away for pressure testing and a subtle skim.
Pressure test done, no cracks..... WHALLLWHOWEGGIE!!!
So new head gasket ordered and cracked on with the re-fitting (after a while of sitting on my arse and doing nowt) of the head again.
back to the original question, when the cylinder head gets skimmed, how much do they take off?
Whats the thickness of a standard M42 head gasket? in thou, if possible?
I hate working in thou!
And does anyone know the torques for ARP head bolts on a M42
I've been told 85ft lbf/ 115NM? does this sound right?
i didn't build the original engine, just took on the challenge.
i like a challenge!
Geting a bit bubbly?!?!

Is you car Tim_s's old one?
Not sure on the ARP bolts but my ARP studs were a torque > degree > degree installation.
Might be worth dropping ARP an email, also they might be an M50 set he used some of , which is what I did as ARP didn't do a M42 kit at the time.

You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity

Yeah its Tims old car.
sorry mine were studs aswell. The box that the studs came in had 85ft/lb noted on the box so I took that as the setting and toqued up 1/3rd at a time.
Anyway, the heads back on now. just need to time it up next weekend as I've run out of time. aaaaaand i cracked the screen on iphone.
