I have just changed all the bushes on my trailing arms and subframe, which all went smoothly. Now its all going back together I thought it would be nice to treat the car to a new set of discs and pads.

Simple task...

The pads are exactly the same as the old ones in appearance and it is as if the thickness of the friction material is the only thing preventing the fitment. The piston is pushed all the way back, although after shifting the caliper about in and out on the guide arms for an hour or so nothing i'm doing will allow both pads to sit in the caliper at once.

The overall thickness of the pad including the base is 17mm and this ties up with what I can find online

Any advice, or has anyone encountered this before?

Had this problem on other cars when using cheap (mintex) pads and ground them down a bit.
I think CP4L stock ATE pads at a reasonable price.

TBH, the ATE pads are the best pads you can use in these cars. I'll stand by the pagid stuff all day but the ATE pads offer the best braking, best durability, best feel, least dust and the easiest fitting as far as OEM stuff goes.
