Just about to start my s50b30 conversion and Ive read so many differant ways and versions to do it I just want to make sure my plans will work ....

For the engine mounts I have 2 x the cylinder shape engine mounts from an e34 m5 ... Can I use both or does one have to be the rectangular shape engine mount from the said m5 ?

Do I keep the standard e30 metal engine mounts or use the e36 ones instead ?

Regards
Dan

The correct E28 M5 mounts are 1 round and 1 rectangular. This is what I used on my S50 conversion without issues and I've since used them on a mates S50 conversion which sees track and hillclimb abuse.

I have read that there are different versions of the rectangular mount with some being stronger/stiffer than others. They seem to be painted different colours depending on the version - the ones I used were both grey in colour and have stood up to the S50 (both conversions) just fine.
I have no idea (never bothered to find out) how or why the mounts are different.

The M30 engined E28s use 2 round mounts, the S38 E28 M5 uses the rectangular mount on the exhaust side, possibly because of the heat from the 6 branch and the extra weight of the 24v head leaning down on it.
Whilst an S50 isn't upto S38 weight, I figured it made sense to use the rectangular mount on the exhaust side.

I destroyed a rectangular BMW supplied mount on my Alpina 24v, the reason the mounts fail is because the mounting angle of the 24v engine on the E30 subframe is not in-line/0 degrees, the AKG mounts show this as they have the angle built in

Ive found that the cylinder mounts also soften up quickly, due to the angle, they are under stress before you even start using the torque or corner hard

Ahh I see, looks like I don't have the correct ones then.

The ones I have are both 11811128932 which on realoem say they are correct ?

Dont suppose anyone has the part numbers from BMW for the correct mounts if mine are in fact wrong ?

Or even better a link to the akg ones ?
