Sprayed the rust free sunroof panel, that's been lying around since August.

Took it to the local garage for the MOT.
It passed with an advisory - worn ball joint (which I thought it might fail on). Then on the trip home patted the dash as whispered 'good old BM'
Schadenfreude - the German's haven't got a word for that.

Made the next purchase on the MTEC suspension project - MTEC shocks and damper inserts bought, MTEC springs already bought earlier. Separating the purchases helps avoid working out how much it's costing.

Next month bushes and maybe even fitting.

Had one of those days where I just want to get rid of it! The starter randomly gave up but I had an almost new one knocking around so started swapping it over. Feeling lazy I left the inlet manifold on (it's an m50, so right pain with it in place) and this laziness has cost me. Dropped a bolt down into the flywheel

All is not lost, it means I now have no reason to not get on with swapping my gearbox out for the far quieter spare I have, just a load of ball ache that I could have done without!

Coolant flush on the weekend. Took 3 attempts to bleed air out of the system as I didn't quite manage to pour the coolant in slowly as recommended. Plus, I've only managed to get 4.25 litres of coolant in and the level is a bit high on the expansion tank :( I did attempt a full drain and water flush but I guess as my drive is on an incline the car facing up, that wasn't the best start. :-x

HOWEVER... the temp gauge now seems to be far more consistent (rather than flapping around and I did previously try tightening the clock screws to seemingly no effect), and the engine I think feels smoother.... could the swine have been air locked for over the 2 years I've had it? 8O

New bilstein B4s fitted all round. The car now drives really sweetly with a lot less body roll. Very decent ride too. Best £ for £ shock for road use IMO.

I need to give the car a bloody good wash at some point but it seems a waste of time with the current weather.

Future plans? From the very minor and cheap (change the interior light bulb in the boot) to the quite expensive (new genuine exhaust).

I also need to get some new tyres for the BBS when the winter bottletops come off. Usual p!ss poor selection of candidates in 205x55x15 guise. I've got Vredestein Sportrac 3s on them at the moment which have been excellent so might give the Sportrac 5 a go. The new Uniroyal Rainsport 3s look decent as well. Decisions, decisions...

Made somes skates from a length of box and 6 casters I "found" at work then stripped the whole rear subframe out today and dropped the car back down on the new skates so I can still move it around on the garage floor reasonably easily although it is still bloody heavy to push on 4" solid wheels.

Also found two holes near where the rear tank mounts are, no real break in the underseal inside or out but after a poke with a biggish screw driver they were there alright... still nows the time.

They're nothing special, unfortunately one of the casters is alittle bent but it does the job

The weight isn't on the thin bit of wood its just there incase the skate tipped so it didn't mark the sill.

Front control arms taken off (bastard of of thing nearside wouldn't come off its ball joint to the subframe, got there eventually). Will get replacement new lemforder ball joints pressed in. One tie rod replaced the other is too stubborn so need a replacement set of molegrips without flat teeth...
Oh and without the zone there's no way on gods earth I would have got the ball joint to subframe nuts off: loads of google results people struggling. Socket extensions, free socket joint and a breaker bar piece of urine! :D
Need to make a zone donation winkeye

Attempting fuel tank removal - so far removed exhaust and prop shaft bolts either side, struggling to remove the prop and not sure what the big cylinder is (arrow) as it doesnt seem to feature on many google images. Removed centre brace and pulled down prop, but cant pull bolts through guibo.

I spent today making a temporary carport (a big ass tarpaulin over the drive) to try and avoid the rain while working on the touring, and by this afternoon I was left with this...

Image

And yes, after getting soaked getting the tarpaulin up, that is the sun making the shadow on the wall

the thing on the end of the prop is for balancing/vibration damper ,some e30's have it some don't .

you need to undo the bolts that fix the prop to the gearbox ie the other three bolts lol ...two combination spanners 17mm is what you need...you will probably need to double up another combination spanner for extra leverage as these are normally, very tight ,unless you have forearms like mine

Thanks for the reply. Used the same technique with the 2 spanners in the end. Also posted this in the technical section as I was struggling to get the prop off and one of the guys informed that I needed to remove the other 3 bolts.

Thanks

Can't let a lack of space stop you! Rain on the other hand.... :o:

That's all the space I've got in front of the touring - there is another parked behind it (missing a front hub/bearing so can't be moved) and the two are bumper to bumper!

I had this for about 9months. Got through several bottles of PAS fluid. The patch on my drive was starting build up to look like leather..
