Hi all,
I am after buying my girlfriend a road legal trackday E30 325 for her birthday. Her daily drive is a new TT so I need to get something with a bit of oopmph to put a smile on her face. Looking around I see some ready finished ones on e-bay etc. for around £5k or some standard ones for around £1k, i'm just after some advice as to what I would need to do to a standard one to give her a blast in it (i've never driven one so I've no idea if a standard one is quick etc.) I realise I'd need to strip the standard oner down a bit, I know someone who will tune it for me and I'd put better pads and tyres on, will this do it (it doesn't seem much work) or am I better off spending more on a finished article with a list of upgrades as long as my arm?
Cheers
Pete

If it's her first time going on track a standard e30 will be fast enough.
Don't be under the allusion they are quick cars mind, but they are good enough on track. And tracks days are about having fun, especially at an amateur level, not about having the fastest car with all sorts of modifications.
Decent pads and fluids and remove the rear bench/spare wheel will be enough for now. If she likes it, then slowly start doing things. You can also learn your way around the car that way.

Grow some, and tell her to leave the driving to you. So, get her in the kitchen to make you some PIE!!

Thanks Ross, makes sense I just don't want her enjoying driving her TT on the road more than this on the track otherwise there's no point. Also she likes the M body kit, but again I don't know if this will improve the handling or just be a lump of fibreglass weighing down the car (ok I admit it, my ignorance comes from being a classic landrover man , where it REALLY isn't about being the fastest out there), again any advice gratefully received.

If it's a track slag it's going to end up looking like shit in no time anyway so don't bother with an M-Tech kit, if she is concerned with how it looks, I don't think track driving is going to be her thing!themadsaxon wrote:Thanks Ross, makes sense I just don't want her enjoying driving her TT on the road more than this on the track otherwise there's no point. I can guarantee she will enjoy driving the TT more than a 20+ year old track slag though
