It's happened a couple of times lately, driving down the road the engine just cuts out for no apparent reason. It does other strange things,I mean the si lights all lite up as it cut out.The big clue I can give you lot is when I tap the the three relays on their own fuel pump, main, and the other one the car jumps back into life.I put a brand new main relay on last week but no luck.Could this fault be caused by a nacked fuel pump relay or something else.I have now just replaced the fuel pump relay,I got a about a mile Dow the road and it cut again. The only other relay is the O2 sensor, could this causing my fault? And also when it cuts out and I try restart it,it turns over but only the brake pad warning, lights up and no other dash ignition lights work while I'm cranking it over.

What does the rev.counter do when it cuts? Drop like a stone, or drop slowly as the engine slows?

I can't remember exactly what it did but it was acting strange,I think it was working as I turned the engine over.

Sounds like you need to remove the relay housing and look carefully at the terminals from above and underneath, and use electrical contact cleaner/small wire brush/fine emery paper as appropriate to clean them up.

Maybe also bend the Lucar connectors inwards a bit to tighten them up if required.

Cheers for that,by the way it's not the hand brake warning light that lights up where it's cranked over,it's the brake bad ware warning light.

I think the wires going to the relays may need cleaning small wire brush, basically as Speedtouch said the only thing is how do you extract them from the plastic conecting blocks?

The terminals are often held in by tongs that can be pushed in with a small flat-bladed screwdriver, then pushed or pulled out.

Take a note of which wire goes where before you go taking it apart!
