I have a flipout screen on my dash the back of the case had to be fibreglassed down.... (didnt want the chavs seeing it!)
It looked crap though, and i mean crap

But now ive taken it back off. and im looking of fitting it where the central airvents are!

Has anyone done this before?

Is it easy?

when you say flip out, do you mean a motorised one, so its looks like a normal stereo?

it is possible to fit it where the vents are but its alot of work. first you have to block the back of the vents, then make a surround for the screen. also you might have overheating issues as that area does get hot when heaters are on.

touringdaddy has done exactly what you describe and he's fareham based - maybe worth giving him a pm.

what you describe is not difficult to do but time consuming to get it to look right. personally i'd remove a vent unit from a scrappy, masking tape the front of it up and fibreglass a template for it. then mdf out a surround for your cage and get it all to sit right in the dash then mask the inside of your template and fibreglass again to get your finished line. you'll then have a) a screen mount that follows the same line as the original dash and b) a readly made cover for it for when you park up - nobody tries to steal what they don't know is there. trimming will be the finishing touch, i can point you towards a local vinyl seller that has an exact match for the e30 dash. (handy!)

while all this takes place it wouldn't be difficult to knock up some heat shielding too.

pop round if you want some help.
