didnt think glaciers covers E30 to be honest, i had to provide autotrader adverts etc as glasses starts with e36. may be different with the touring though.

Anything you're offered over £600 will be a bonus. If it really was in outstanding condition, then you'll have to fight to get more.
Cash the cheque, keep the car under your control, and ignore any requests from the insurance to make the car available for collection.

Mileage ? spec ? history ? Most are sorry scrap which makes the nice one more valuable, to those who know the difference.

I wouldn't even bother with that. Just keep it and the paperwork in your possession after you've cashed the full cheque.
The likes of Copart who buy the cars on from the insurance companies pay a fixed percentage of pre accident value, regardless of the write off category that the car was assigned. Because they are obliged to take all the cars, including the ones that are just burnt out shells, this percentage is very low, meaning your car will be worth something like £20 to your insurance company.
They will ask you to send of the V5 and make the car available for collection, but since this costs them far more than the car is worth to them, they won't pursue you in any way if you just ignore them and keep the car.

He's saying that if you keep it, they won't bother chasing you. Not _quite_ the same thing...
Not sure how that would show up on an HPI check.
