could be something or nothing.....if the car is still for sale then it obviously hasn't been crushed .

i was stopped for driving an untaxed car [my e30] even though i had taxed it that morning

Image

the copper was being a dick with attitude talking to me like i was 17 years old...right on his high hoarse ....

your car isn't taxed and should not be on the road and he could take it off me if he wanted to etc 8O

i said the car had been taxed that morning and from the drivers seat i pointed to the tax disc .

well i have to physically walk round to see it then [he said]

i replied that will be the only physical thing you have done this year and got out of the car to take the p1ss a bit more .

he was short and fat :D

he started trying to be nice when i got my phone out and took this pic but wouldn't let me get one of him even though i said i will make him famous .....

it cost's nothing to be polite !

Smithdown Road eh? that brings back student memories. Vague, hungover memories....

Mick, there's nothing like a digital camera to add a little realism to the proceedings - of course he wasn't to know you're still using that crappy old phone with Vaseline on the lens :D

a tiny amount of toothpaste on a cotton bud will polish the crap of a phone lens. don't use it on anything expensive like proper camera lenses though as it may damage the anti-reflection coating.

From what I have seen on youtube you are allowed to take pictures and videos of coppers as they are civil servants

I got pulled on new years day. For coming up on the system as being un-insured. The coppers were actually alright. I told them that my insurance was renewed last August for the year. All I had was an email on my phone, showing confirmation of the insurance purchased.

They gave me a producer.

Sadly their system was right.... Un-beknown to me, my proof of no claims had not been received by the new insurer. And they had cancelled my insurance back in October.

I now have a court summons pending, which is a sh!tter.. driving without insurance is viewed dimly by the law and insurers.. :o

So a lesson learnt.. double check and never assume..

G-Bear, so whats the worse case outcome of the court hearing?

I got stopped by an under cover X5, admittedly I cut it up in the 335i, that was showing as uninsured, as I took out a new policy on it only a few days earlier so hadn't shown up on their cr@p system. I had emails and the policy PDF on my iPhone so they let me go and told me to stop driving like an @rsehole. :)

I think the best outcome will be 6 points and £200-£300 (I can't remember the exact figure). It has the potential to be 9 points. I'll plead guilty but under mitigated circumstances. As I wasn't knowingly driving without insurance.

It's more how it'll effect my insurance premium and I hire Vans for work a lot, some hire companies won't allow people to hire of them with that offence. But such as life I guess.

Tell them that driving is essential to to your livelihood, they'll go easy on you. I know a couple of lorry drivers one with 18 points on his licence and the other had 21 points.!!!

They won't take your licence away if you you need to to earn money..... ;)

@Magpie

You got off lightly.

The better half & I went to get a chippy one Friday night, parked up in the carpark across the road and while walking across the carpark we almost got ran over by young pups in a citroen laguna, no springs, plenty of stickers & a R plate (you get this for your first year of driving.

They where with a 'cruise' and generally where making a show of themselves. I turned to the woman and said something along the lines of "You'd think the fooking police would do something about that considering the court house is beside the carpark....."

Got our chips etc and came back and the little toe rags had gone...

Left the carpark, came to the roundabout and to my right was a police car. They where both sitting sationary peering into the carpark. So I thought, right I'll go then & went around the roundabout.

Police car swings around and follows me 3 miles up the road... pulls me over.

"Do you know how a roundabout works!?"
"We had to slam the breaks on to avoid hitting you!!"

I argued that he was sitting still and he was too busy looking into the carpark etc etc.

Next thing.

"I am now going to search your car under the NI terrorism act"

Went through the woman's hand bag and pulled everything out of the boot,

I went fooking mad.

It was only the one officer that was being a tool.

He was in his early 20's and with a much older officer.

The older one asked me to open the bonnet and when I was walking back to the car he said to me, he's new. Don't mind him, sort of way.

Normally police in NI are sound but in any organisation you'll get one fooker that has little man issues.

I've had the dreaded IN10 on my license, 6 points and a £150 fine. Regards to hiring vans, this was troublesome, I couldn't hire from any of them  The only one I could was with a local independent company where I knew the transport manager and they were ok with it.
Regarding insurance, well, worse news, mine doubled 8O , for 5 years. What I ended up doing was to tranfser all cars into the missus name and have me as second driver on the policies, this helped to reduce it a bit.

G Bear going back nearly 10 years I had 6 points for letting an uninsured driver drive my car I can't imagine it's worse than that. Try the legal forum on pistonheads maybe?

To be fair I do know of a guy who pleaded innocence (falsely I might add) as the lad had "insisted" he had other car insurance. Court let him off with a big fine. Though this was some time back. You have a better case in my view!

Also - this business of "we'll cancel your insurance if we feel like it" stinks to me and seems relatively recent - I nearly fell foul of that :( You can always play holy hell with your insurance company if they hadn't made all reasonable attempts to inform you they were now making you commit an offence repeatedly! Where is their letter etc.
