PICS OF THE WHEELS ON CAR NOW ADDED, PLEASE SCROLL DOWN

Last year I swapped my Alpina reps for a set of Standard 15" BBS Alloys. Although the ride difference was improved tremendously they were in a flaky corroded state and I didn't realise it at the time but all the tyres were wrong. I got a price for a full refurb but the cost was ridiculous and I may as well have gone out and bought a set in good condition. So I found a local powder coating company that do wheels for £45 per wheel. I paid £55 per wheel as I wanted them chrome effect. Now they are by no means concourse standard but the result is astonishing considering what state they were in before.

I had the same company do my M-paras about 4 years ago and the those wheels are on their 4th car now with not so much as a blemish so I'd say it is a very hard wearing finish, The E30 doesn't see the road in winter so I'm guessing they will last as long as I have the car.

I wouldn't expect it to flake or chip but I've heard shiny finishes on powder coatings loose the shine after a while and go misty. I almost had some bike wheels done gold a while back but the powder coating guy advised against it for that very reason.

This was about 10 years ago perhaps technology has moved on since

Keeping bbs clean is a job on its own, sod chrome ones. Is it anti brake dust chrome?

As for fading or going cloudy I reckon it's a case of using the right tools, I use clean microfiber cloth with loads of water. My M-paras have always been really easy to wipe the brake dust off, it never seems to get baked on no matter how long I've left the cleaning for.

I have finally splashed out and bought a brand new set of Toyo's for my BBS wheels went a bit nuts with the camera.

Overall cost for anyone interested, straight swap for my Alpina reps (estimated value £150 as the tyres were good), £10 to remove old wrong size tyres, £220 to refurb wheels, £250 for tyres, £40 for tyre fit and wheel balance. Total £670, OUCH! 8O

Anyway, took the car out for a drive and it was simply superb, world of difference to the 17" Alpina copies. Anyone considering ditching aftermarket wheels for OEM, DO IT!

Those are fantastic Jim and really set the car off well.

For the £55 a wheel they obviously powder coated AND did a little repair work to the rims? There's no sign of curb rash from what I can see.

Great job. :)

The company is PPS fibreglass specialists in Inverurie. Bit of a trek for you guys. The price for the results is fantastic. Any pitting on the fronts was filled prior to being coated. The insides were left so they are not so pretty but who cares. It's by no means a show car.

phil i can give you contact details to get them done local

these look great, look nicer on the car than the 1st chromey pics

personly, i think the center nuts look a bit out of sorts where they are silver but do not match the wheel, maybe try a different color like gold, or re paint them yourself in a brigher silver maybe
