Hi, i have recently purchased a used scorpion lemans backbox and centre section for my 325i tech2 sport. I was trying to fit the centre to the downpipe and noticed one of the flanges on the scorpion centre box did not go all the way to the end up the pipe (the oem flange went to the end of the pipe). Is this how it should be or should the flange go to the end? The original bolts are not long enough to fit through to the downpipe and even if i used longer ones is this how it should be?
Thanks
Thanks

The scorpion flanges dont have a chamfer like the BMW flanges, so they wont go all the way to the end, dont tighten them up too much either as they will dent the flared end of the pipes

Thought so....yeh i will post a picture when i get a chance....i could probably use a mallet to move the flange towards the end of the pipe however the end of the pipe is not upward rolled to prevent the flange coming off from the end, its a straight cut. This seems strange to me as that would not be a secure fitment....unless im missing something here or thats how the scorpion box is supposed to be?
Will post pics asap

After some force the flange did move to the end of the pipe but as the pipe is not flared it just came off. This cant be right can it?

Its being connected to an OEM downpipe...would that make any difference as opposed to connecting to a scorpion downpipe? How do i connect it then as i tried already and flange just slid off the pipe once bolted on?

Are you fitting it with a gasket ring?

Yes but i may be going wrong at this step...should the ring fit around the pipe as the ones i got from ECP didnt?

Does anybody know if the pipe is supposed to be straight or flared to stop the flange from coming off?

Standard arrangement is that one of the pipes has a flare on each side of the join, with non removable clamps loose on the pipe behind the flare. (Both sides the same as the left hand one in the pic.) A loose metal ring fits between the two flares, to locate them in line, and two nuts and bolts hold the clamp together.
The other pipe has a similar flare and loose clamp on one half, but the other half has a pipe that is a sliding fit over the other one, a loose ring (olive) that is made of some compressible material, and a removable clamp. The clamp is slid on the pipe first, followed by the olive, so that when it is bolted together the olive slides along the pipe up to the fixed flare, and is then compressed by the clamp.
From your pic., I'd say you need both the metal and compressible olives

Thanks for your reply.
Yes i have got both the rings for each of the pipes from BMW. One is a metal ring and the other is slightly softer. From my picture the flared pipe meets with the OEM flared down pipe and the metal rings sits in place and they can be tightened up fine without any problems. However when i attempt to do this on the other pipe the flange just slides off from the centre box. When comparing the scorpion centre box to my OEM one both pipes are flared where as on the scorpion one is flared (this side is secure) the other is not (this side is causing the flange to slide off with little force even once tightened). I dont think im fitting it incorrectly as it seems straight forward. Ive been trying to compare it to pics online of scorpion centre boxes for sale but cant get a clear enough one of the pipes. Would i need to get that pipe flared out slightly or am i just fitting it incorrectly?

I think that pipe should have a flared end on it TBH, the frontpipe should slide into it, and the flare your missing would hold the crushable gasket in place.
Does it look like its been cut off?

No doesnt look like its been cut off and the front pipe does slide into that pipe its just the flange slides off and moves accross to the front pipe, effectively there is no join then....i contacted scorpion exhausts and was told the metal ring which is designed to deform upon tightening creates a flange in the pipe once its all tightened...i really dont see how a soft material like that will cause a solid metal pipe to deform but all i can do is try! If anything i will have to just use some sort of exhaust joint or take it to a specialist to see if a flare can be put on it.
Thanks for the input so far...i thought it was me missing something!
Anybody who has pics of their scorpion center sections pipes which join onto the downpipe for me to compare would be very much appreciated.

This is an old scorpion of mine, for an early car hence the three bolt flanges

I would make sure the frontpipe goes into the tube far enough before you have the end flared, and dont forget to slide the flange on first
