Blue temp sensor location - 316i
Moderator: martauto
Hey guys, probably a silly question but can anyone confirm the location of the blue temp sensor on a 316i?
I thnk its under the air intake pipe on the engine in a slightly awkward small gap (not very technical heh) but just hoping someone can confirm it for me?
Thanks

If its an M40 (I'm assuming that, as its a 316i), the CTS is under the Inlet manifold, to the right of the Brown Sensor. Its a pain to get at!

To be fair, is there any reason you need to access it? Are you certain it needs replacing?

That's the way BMW intended and why they made the top bit so easy to remove.TPS wrote:Not sure, I took the top half of the inlet to get at mine.
You should have left it in place and measured the resistance at the pins on the ECU connector inside the cabin. The Wiki gives you the pinouts of the ECU and the resistance values you expect.Kamatari wrote:not 100% certain apart from what ive been told and read which is to do with the cold start.....too late now as i removed it which wasnt too bad although it is now raining quite heavily and i was just coming to put in the new one
This method tests that there is not a wiring problem going from the Blue Sensor to the ECU.
