Bought a car xmas eve, sent off for the log book. Turns out I have to have a VIC before they will issue me with a log book, and when I get it it(assuming the car passes) will have vehicle damaged and significantly repaired stamped on it, which I am not very chuffed about, but still, but I am not sure where to find the engine number. I am guessing the VIN is on the plate on the right hand sife of the engine bay at the front, starts with WB AA etc, but I cannot see the engine number. Urgent advie would be greatly appreciated asap.

Thanks for the help,

baz

What engine?

most BM's seem top have there engine number on the passenger side of the block, right at the bottom next to the oil sump joint.

If it's a 325 then depending on year i believe its by the base of the dip-stick, there was a post asking this same question a few days ago...

Ok on the M40 lump the engine number is definitely on the passenger side, half way along the block edge.

In the photo below look along the bottom edge of the block, approx in line with the 3rd cylinder you will see a raised 'lump' on here will be the engine number. You will need to sand the face of the lump to expose the number beneath the crud.
