Hi guys
Unfortunately due to a house move my 325i convertible has to go. It only has 51,000 on the clock so I am hopeful of a good price. Has anyone got any tips of go places to sell other than the usual autotrader, pistonheads etc??
I am keen that it goes to a fellow enthusiast. Obviously I will advertise on here.
Cheers guys
Tim

The Zone is good if you want comedy - "I'd have that if you were closer"; "Can you keep it in storage until my bonds mature in 2038" etc...

Thanks guys really appreciate the replies. Yeah unfortunately forums do tend to attract those sort of replies to sales adds. The next problem is pricing it! I am struggling to get a good idea of its value!

This will give you a ROUGH ESTIMATE. Work through it and tell us what price it recommends for your chariot, and then we'll tell you how realistic that is:twoscoops wrote:The next problem is pricing it! I am struggling to get a good idea of its value!

Take loads of pics, write a detailed accurate description and put it on Ebay as a ten day Auction. Ten days later you will have an idea of its value

From the pics it looks like your car has a few negatives that will stop you getting top dollar and dont neccessarily go with the mileage as low mileage cars are expected to be near mint.
Rusty rear arch near the cill,
the cills looks like there going,
wheels need a refurb,
The big scratch
Dent on the rear quarter.
Scrapes on the bumper plastics
All of which is fixable but your looking at a significant spend.
The bodywork on my cab was not far off yours with the exception being no rust, fresh refurb on the wheels with practically new tyres, but 167K on the clock and I got £2600 for it last summer.

^This, take the time now to get as many HD pics as you will definately get asked for them.suedenim wrote:Add some equally good photos of the interior, engine bay and with the roof down too.
Try sell it closer to the sunnier months this will more than likely get you a better price... Trying to sell during the monsoon we are currently having will not be a good idea.
Also, try and get quotes for fixing the rear arch and the ding in the back panel to mention in the add, or get them fixed and add the cost on.

So the body work will be nothing like a cab with 170,000 on it in scotland. Thats a garantee!
Remember folks you can't re buy low milege and some good old unmolestedness like this car is possesing.
A nice cab without a load of shit nailed on, makes a pleasant change
At least 3k in my eyes

Not the "all E30s which come from Scotland are rot-boxes" point again, surely ?

They are mostly shit no?
I've got 2 alpina tourings e36/e46 both of which have spent time on Scotland, luckily not too high like aberdeen. One has spent over 8 years, and the other nearly the same and it also shows in both cars in their bodywork and underneath. You don't see rusty e46's round here but mines got f**ked front wings and is scabbing on the rear arches above the bumper like e36's do.
I'm not hung up about it though like Barry! His M3 is on a scotch reg or did no one notice My e46 is the only car i've seen had where the wheels were stained yellow/brown from all the salt. They've dont 340,000 between them so we just keep driving them!

Bad points - It's got got dings all over, rear arches are going, sils are going below and around the door. Wheels are tatty. It's also leaking oil if you look at the floor on the pics. The colour isn't the most sought after either, IMO.
The paint looks good, Has black leather sports interior which looks to be in good nick? Good low mileage car.
I'd say this cab was worth £2,500 really. Sorry to sound harsh but thats the level of scrutiny you'll get from a sharp e30 enthusiast coming to buy it.

That's not harsh mate, just honest. The car isn't leaking oil that is just water as it had been washed prior to being polished for the photos.mcbonio wrote:Bad points - It's got got dings all over, rear arches are going, sils are going below and around the door. Yep, my E46 M3 is indeed a scotch turd and was sold new by Harry Fairbain Glasgow BUT was only there for a year before coming down south.
And it shows!
I'm not hung up about my car hailing from Scotland at all, because of the short time it was there.
If it had spent any lengthy amount of time up there i wouldnt have bothered to even view it. Plenty more draggers in the sea.

What's the logic behind Scottish cars rusting more and faster than English/Welsh or Irish cars ?

I have had many turds from all over the country the worst one so far was a one owner 325i from Devon, that was really grim,
Luckily the damp isn't all bad... A leather interior From Scotland is always nice !!

its colder and you get 10 times more rain/snow shit weather , 15 times more salt on the roads. You don't get palm trees growing in scotland do you? See plenty down here!Topblag wrote:What's the logic behind Scottish cars rusting more and faster than English/Welsh or Irish cars ?
Cars in ireland suffer badly too, north wales.

Sorry, I confused it with a identical car with similar mileage that somebody posted about last year .
Re your car , the two major positives are that it is unmolested and the very low mileage. Has it many owners ? How long have you had it ?
You have two options , make it look as presentable as possible and get it on Ebay and see what it makes OR spend some money sorting its issues and advertise it for strong money. I can see by the pics that there is some arch and sill rust and I am guessing the rear valance under the bumper has been refinished incorrectly after repairing damage / rust ?
As an excellent car with no issues, cosmetic or mechanical and assuming there is comprehensive history and low owners, and properly prepped , it may well make 6-7k +
How much it will cost to get it into this condition is the question and deciding factor on what route you take.

Yep we get Palm trees too, see plenty in the seaside towns. I agree to extent with a lot of scottish cars being rustier, mine had lived down south most of its life and had not been used autumn \ winter for about 16 years which seemed to have preseved it better than most.Simon13 wrote:its colder and you get 10 times more rain/snow shit weather , 15 times more salt on the roads. But some of the other scottish cars I saw were scrap, only the ones owned by people as a weekend good weather car were worth considering. Colins cab is a prime example of a good weather scottish cab.

As said on another thread, there are exceptions to the rule, like cars from the south coast or any coast for that matter can be pretty grim due to the sea air. Or cars driven up and down muddy tracks/farm land everyday car lead to crustyness.
When i worked for Hexagon BMW in Central London, replacing front to rear brake pipes was unheard of where as at the first BMW dealer i worked for, Chandlers of Hailsham (near the coast at Eastborne) it was a regular thing.

There are exceptions to any rule but it is a FACT that Scottish turds are crustier than non coastal southern cars.
