I've just bought myself an E46 330i SE touring (pre facelift) to replace my E36 328i saloon that is past economical repair (rusty sills, brake pipes, etc)...
New car is a bit leggy (193K miles), but has been generally well treated and is in reasonable condition...everything works and it only needs a couple of things sorted out...One rear wheel bearing is a bit noisy and the passenger seat occupancy sensor is intermittantly putting the airbag light on...
I wonder if anyone has a link to an online version of the Bentley manual for an E46....I don't mind paying, just I prefer it in PDF format to cut down tree format.

Rear wheelbearings aren't too bad to do - IF the driveshaft comes out of the rear hub okay. Before you get too involved, undo the hub nut a few turns and try to drift the shaft in. If it moves easily, carry on. If it doesn't, buy/rent a serious three legged puller, and be prepared to remove the complete rear trailing arm to get it pressed out.
You'll need the bearing puller kit, and 330i's have the big 85mm rear bearing, not the 75mm E36 type used on lesser models. I did one in 2 hours last week but I have the tools to do it. Tbh, I'd pay a garage to do the job. Also, invest £15 and buy a new rear brake backplate as they're often rusty, and fitting a new one is a hub off job - new wheelbearing!

Cheers for the advice Andy...I have a decent 3 legged puller already, but am going to do the job at my mates' workshop in a couple of weeks as he has the proper BMW tools...(and plenty of experince in doing them).

Fair enough. Euros do a decent FAG type wheelbearing kit (bearing, nut and circlip) for about £30 and BMW do a valueline one for around £45 - same thing in a BMW box basically.
Be careful of the ABS sensor when getting the bearing out!
