I've got to replace the drive motor on the powered hood on my car. Can anyone advise on how to align the motor/connecting rods?
Any advice on where to get a drive motor would also be appreciated - list price around Ԛ£400!

what is wrong with the motor ...is it the usual in that the alloy top breaks away but the motor still turns.........if so you can get away with fitting a special steel plate sold on german ebay for about Ԛ£50 ...bolts over the top and replaces the broken bits but takes 20 mins to fit and has it all working correctly in no time the drive motor is still available from bmw last year i was quoted Ԛ£315 but i am told they are also available from euro car parts

All I can say is get an expert to do it...i used nick thompson in sheffield but Jason in walsall is the cab expert and also will supply(pm cabrio for his details) a new casing for the old motor ..you might need the connecting rods as well. The cover from germany is well engineered . I am off skiing and the detalls are on my other computer but if you want them do a search on this site. this subject should be in technical help as it is always coming up

If you want to have a go yourself have a look on bimmerdiy.com as there are a few tips on there. I paid Ԛ£300+vat for a new motor from europarts in May last year

Hope thats a help

It's the drive shaft for the hood connecting rod. Motor still drives the parcel shelf. Would the steel plate be the solution?

Thanks - I fitted new connecting rods a couple of years ago so probably put strain on motor!
