Not sure about the E36 one, but I believe there are two different motors for the E30, so you'll prob need to remove the old one and check which it is!!!
I got a second hand one cheap enough to take a gamble and amazingly I had the right one!!!
It's so nice having the blower working quietly - just on low to keep the windscreen clear without it screaming at me!!!

If the fan does still spin, then lubricating it will work wonders.
If it's properly dead, you can source one from any other facelift E30 - there are plenty out there - as well as the Z3. However, aircon-equipped cars have a different fan, as do pre-facelift E30s, so make sure you get the right one.

Ive got exactly the same problem atm. Keep heater on the windscreen full blast so it dont squeak and get baking hot in no time, or keep it on low and have the squeeking tormenting me?miniblob wrote:Not sure about the E36 one, but I believe there are two different motors for the E30, so you'll prob need to remove the old one and check which it is!!!

Do you have to take the dash off to get to the blower to lubricate it?Grrrmachine wrote:If the fan does still spin, then lubricating it will work wonders.

Motor and fan is behind an access panel in the engine bay.

As above...
Fairly easy job even if a bit fiddly. I am a complete novice with E30's and I changed mine in about an hour give or take. (don't laugh experts!)

Could at least have made the effort to clean it if you are going to charge that much!GB69 wrote:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191045721875

Thanks for the advice everyone, I managed to get a heater blower today for 15 quid from a z3,it was in a breakers yard in Queensferry . I fitted it this afternoon and it works fine no screeching rattles any more. The old one was totally nackered the bearings had totally come out from one end!
Cheers Emlyn.

Mine was working fine last week with a bit of a weird noise on the first or second setting but quiet on 3 and 4. I've come back a week later and nada, it's just gone. Checked the fuse and that's fine, wondering if the whole blower's dead or maybe just the resistors need changing?
Thought it was better to pipe in on this one rather then start a new topic if anyone's coming back to read it

If it doesn't work on 4 then the motor is probably seized.

It didn't work at all, so I removed the resistor and cleaned it with a screwdriver and WD, dried it and reinstalled it and voila - working fans.
It'll need replacing in the very near future but at least I've not bought a whole new motor etc.
