On occaision my steering seems to get really heavy. It doesn't happen all the time but seems to be getting more frequent. I know it probably needs the P/S fluid changing but as it seems to come and go I wouldn't think this would be the culprit.
It's an '89 325 Touring by the way.
For example when I turn a corner the straighten up the wheel needs to be physically pulled back round to the straight position rather than just automatically feeding through your hand when the car straightens up after turning. It also get to a certain point on maybe 3/4 lock and it gets even heavier?? Can't hear any whines from P/S pump, there's no leak from the P/S system and I have replaced the hoses fairly recently...
Any ideas?
Cheers

have you checked fluid level ? i'd be looking at the pump after the level if the rack boots are dry .
